**Senior Software Engineer, iOS (Contract)** **About the Role** Join the Wikimedia Foundation's App Growth team within Core Experiences engineering for a 3-month full-time contract. Help make our apps the destination for knowledge lovers and grow active readership through cross-platform feature development. ⏰ **Remote Position** - Requires minimum 4 hours/day overlap between 14:00-21:00 UTC **Key Responsibilities** • Deliver medium complexity initiatives from discovery through launch • Improve mobile Wikipedia experiences for a global, multilingual audience on iOS • Lead system design for medium-sized projects; design accessible, scalable components • Build testable, observable, and debuggable software with strong instrumentation • Partner cross-functionally with product, design, analytics, and engineering teams • Identify high-impact technical opportunities and manage priorities • Maintain team standards in code review, testing, documentation, and accessibility **Required Qualifications** • Bachelor's degree + 5-10+ years professional experience building iOS applications • Strong proficiency with Swift, SwiftUI, UIKit, and iOS architectural patterns • Experience with iOS performance optimization techniques • Self-driven work style in lean environments • Commitment to Wikimedia Foundation's mission and values **Nice to Have** • WebView integration experience (iOS/Android) • Cross-platform mobile app maintenance • Mobile games or interactive experience development • Data science, ML, or AI familiarity • Wikipedia/MediaWiki/content management system experience • Open source contributions • Agentic coding experience **Compensation & Logistics** 💰 US-based: $56,070 - $87,130/year (adjusted by location and experience) 🌍 Hiring in 30+ countries including US, Canada, UK, Germany, India, and more **About Wikimedia Foundation** Non-profit organization operating Wikipedia and free knowledge projects.
