## Engineering Lead, AI Email App ### About the role Build proactive, AI-powered email and productivity experiences for users who aren’t “AI-native.” You’ll own the engineering layer that turns AI capability into a reliable product—focusing on high reliability for long-running workflows, persistent context, and real-world task completion. ### What you’ll own - Own application engineering strategy and execution across **backend, mobile, and desktop** - Design reliable systems for **AI-powered workflows** (state, orchestration, tool use, retries, fallbacks, failure handling) - Build **APIs and abstractions** connecting AI systems to real-world product experiences - Lead a small team of **senior engineers** (design reviews, code reviews, hands-on mentorship) - Make high-impact trade-offs across **latency, reliability, cost, security, and UX** - Establish production foundations: **observability, monitoring, testing, operational excellence** - Partner with ML leadership to ship robust, production-ready product experiences - Move quickly while keeping architecture **simple, maintainable, and scalable** ### What we’re looking for - Experience leading application/product engineering for **complex systems** - Strong hands-on background shipping **production backend systems** - Experience building **AI-powered products/systems** integrating modern ML/LLMs - Strong technical judgment and ability to decide with **incomplete information** - Comfortable across **backend and client platforms** (deep expertise in at least one) - Ownership mindset: **ship, learn from real usage** - High standards for **code quality, reliability, and engineering fundamentals** ### Outcomes - Production systems are **observable, monitored, and stable** under real-world load - Decisions consistently balance **speed, cost, reliability, and UX** - Backend, mobile, and desktop features work smoothly and reliably - **Latency and reliability improve measurably** over time ### How we work Small, hands-on, high-talent-density team.
