## Technical Lead, AI Email App ### About the role Build proactive, AI-native email and productivity experiences for billions of users who aren’t used to complex prompting. You’ll own the engineering layer that turns AI capability into a reliable, long-running product—focused on high reliability, persistent context, and real-world task completion. ### What you’ll own - Application engineering strategy and execution across **backend, mobile, and desktop** - Reliable systems for **AI-powered workflows** (state, orchestration, tool use, retries, fallbacks, failure handling) - **APIs and abstractions** connecting AI systems to real-world product experiences - Lead a small team of **senior engineers** (design reviews, code reviews, hands-on mentorship) - High-impact trade-offs across **latency, reliability, cost, security, and UX** - Production foundations: **observability, monitoring, testing, and operational excellence** - Partner with **ML leadership** to ship robust product experiences - Move quickly while keeping architecture **simple, maintainable, and scalable** ### What we’re looking for - Experience leading application/product engineering for **complex systems** - Strong hands-on background shipping **production backend systems** - Experience building **AI-powered products/systems** integrating modern ML/LLMs - Strong technical judgment and ability to decide with **incomplete information** - Comfortable across **backend and client platforms** (deep expertise in at least one) - Ownership mindset: **ship, learn from real usage** - High standards for **code quality, reliability, and engineering fundamentals** ### Outcomes - Production systems are **observable, monitored, and stable** under real-world load - Decisions balance **speed, cost, reliability, and UX** - Backend/mobile/desktop features work smoothly and reliably - **Latency and reliability improve measurably** over time ### How we work Small, high-talent-density, hands-on team.
