**Product Engineer, AI Email App** **About the role** Build proactive, AI-native experiences for everyday communication and organization. You’ll work at the intersection of user needs, model capability, and engineering constraints—helping define system behavior, measurement, and continuous improvement for long-running workflows with persistent context and real-world task completion. **What you’ll own** - Define end-to-end requirements for AI capabilities (model behavior → system behavior → user experience) - Translate model capabilities, evaluation results, and technical constraints into product/system decisions - Make trade-offs across quality, latency, cost, reliability, safety, and UX - Partner with ML, backend, and client engineers on system design, evaluation, and iteration - Define and evolve evaluation frameworks (offline metrics, online experiments, human feedback) - Establish quality bars and feedback loops for AI-powered experiences - Drive execution via clear specifications, prioritization, and strong technical judgment - Identify failure modes and ensure predictable, graceful recovery - Own product quality end-to-end: correctness, reliability, usefulness, and user trust **What we’re looking for** **Technical** - Strong CS fundamentals and system design skills - Solid understanding of modern ML and AI behavior in production - Comfortable reading technical designs and engaging deeply with engineers - Strong intuition for limitations, hallucinations, evaluation, and failure modes **Product & AI** - Experience owning complex, technical products end-to-end - Hands-on experience with AI-powered products, especially LLM-based systems - Experience with model evaluation, experimentation, prompting, or AI iteration - Ability to turn ambiguous problems into measurable requirements and executable plans - Strong judgment when the “right answer” isn’t obvious **Mindset** - Highly technical, curious, and comfortable going deep - Bias toward shipping, experimentation, and learning from real-world usage - Constructively challenge engineers/researchers while collaborating closely - Comfortable with significant ownership in a fast-moving, zero-to-one environment **Nice to have** - Experience shipping AI-heavy consumer products - Engineering background or highly technical product management experience - Experience defining evaluation metrics for ML systems - Strong intuition for AI UX patterns and failure handling - Prior zero-to-one product experience **Outcomes** - AI capabilities align with user needs and company priorities - AI features deliver real value and are understandable, predictable, and trusted - Decisions balance quality, speed, cost, and reliability under uncertainty - Clear roadmaps/priorities with fast iteration from real user feedback - Teams are aligned and able to execute with minimal friction **How we work** Small, high-talent-density, hands-on team with broad ownership.
