**Software Engineer II (Kotlin) – Core Experience** **About Adyen** Adyen provides payments, data, and financial products in a single solution for customers like Meta, Uber, H&M, and Microsoft—making us a financial technology platform of choice. Everything we do is engineered for ambition. Adyen is looking for full-time Kotlin Engineers to help develop our in-person payments solution. You’ll work with a large and varied fleet of payment terminals and payment SDKs in the field, continuously improving them by adding new features and payment methods. Kotlin development plays a vital role, with code deployed across solutions using Kotlin Multiplatform. --- **What you’ll do** - Accept payments using credit/debit cards, Apple Pay, or Google Pay on mobile phones, and/or accept payments through QR codes - Build and maintain payment features for global merchants - Integrate with a variety of cash registers using modern standards - Develop core business logic in Kotlin, deployed across Android and Linux-based payment terminals and on the backend - Contribute to C++ libraries central to payment business logic - Ensure quality with a range of testing methods, from unit tests to full product testing via automated programmable robots --- **Who you are** - A motivated, enthusiastic team player who collaborates with engineers, product designers, and business stakeholders - Able to provide reliable, clearly understandable code - Willing to learn and improve - Flexible and open to new ideas - Detail-oriented - Able to debug and solve problems in the Android application and collaborate effectively on cross-functional issues - Proactive in bringing ideas to improve the solution - Curious about new technical possibilities while working within existing frameworks - Self-disciplined and able to work at a fast pace while managing and prioritizing goals --- **Must have qualifications** - Experience writing code in Kotlin - Proficiency building software for the Android platform - Experience developing enterprise-level SDKs - Expert knowledge of Kotlin, Android SDK, Jetpack Compose, Coroutines, Gradle, and Dependency Injection - Experience writing and maintaining comprehensive automated unit and integration tests - Strong technical skills, creative problem-solving, and a collaborative spirit - Ability and desire to mentor and grow other engineers through code reviews, design reviews, and over-the-shoulder debugging - Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English --- **Good to know** - Experience with another non-JVM language (e.g., C or C++) - Experience building libraries used by other engineers - Knowledge of security best practices and standards - Experience working with Bluetooth-connected devices - Experience in the payments industry **Compensation** - Annual base salary range: **$154,000.00 – $200,000.00** --- **Location / Work model** - Based out of the **Chicago office** - Office-first company; **no remote-only roles** --- **What’s next** - Adyen aims to get back to you within **5 business days** - Interview process typically takes about **4 weeks** (may vary by role) - Learn more about the hiring process: https://careers.adyen.com/how-we-hire *Don’t be afraid to let us know if you need more flexibility.*
