**Senior Software Engineer, Cards — Chime** **About the role** Chime’s Cards org is hiring an engineer to help scale and evolve Cards. You’ll work on high-impact projects across service architecture, partnering with product, risk, and design to deliver resilient, secure systems. While the focus is backend, you’ll contribute wherever needed to move the team forward. **Compensation** Base salary range: **$164,000.00–$227,000.00** (actual offer may vary by location, skills, qualifications, and experience). Full-time employees may also be eligible for **bonus, competitive equity, and benefits**. **In this role, you can expect to** - Drive technical design and architectural decisions, mentoring engineers and collaborating cross-functionally - Lead and contribute to multiple projects at once, balancing ownership with support across the broader team - Build and maintain robust, low-latency APIs and backend services powering Trust & Safety platforms - Become a domain expert in platform architecture and help refine maturing platforms - Partner with data engineers, analysts, and product managers to ship features that enhance member protection and experience - Improve reliability and performance via system architecture, observability, and automation - Evolve experimentation, policy lifecycle, and ML integration capabilities for smarter, faster decisions at scale - Participate in an **on-call rotation** (may include responding to incidents outside regular hours) **To thrive in this role, you have** - **5+ years** of production software development at scale - Experience serving as a **technical lead** on complex projects (driving architecture, coordinating execution, aligning teams) - Proven experience with **Ruby on Rails** (or comparable frameworks) - Experience with **transactional databases** and **caching systems** - Deep understanding of architectural patterns for large-scale web applications - Commitment to mentoring and team development - Appreciation for maintainable, well-tested code - Curiosity and passion for diving into system architecture and technical challenges - Fast-paced or early-stage environment experience is a plus **What we offer (highlights)** - **4 days/week in office**, Fridays from home (for those near an office), plus team/company events - Comprehensive **health, financial, and wellbeing** benefits - **Generous vacation** and company-wide paid days off - **Annual wellness stipend** - **Up to 22 weeks paid parental leave** (birthing) and **12 weeks** (non-birthing) - Community support time (**1% of time off**) - Subsidized commuter benefits (eligible employees) **Equal Opportunity** Chime is an Equal Opportunity Employer and considers qualified applicants without regard to protected characteristics.
