Today, SpaceX is developing the technologies to make this possible—ultimately enabling human life on Mars. **Role Overview** AI Data Engineering sits in Falcon & Dragon Avionics and Software. This team helps 10X SpaceX’s engineers by reducing time spent hunting plots, waiting on queues, or SSH’ing into clusters—so engineers can focus on deciding whether the vehicle is good. This seat is on the Vehicle Analysis and HPC side of the team. You’ll build software that turns flight, test, and factory data into pass/fail reports, features, and Ask-AI on telemetry—plus the HPC application layer that lets engineers run analysis at scale without needing Linux or hardware expertise. **Day-to-Day** - Own telemetry and test-data pipelines - Build automated analysis and reporting - Develop the user-facing HPC application engineers use to submit and debug work - Partner with reliability, avionics, GNC, propulsion, structures, and launch operations teams across Falcon, Dragon, Starship, and Raptor **Responsibilities** - Develop reliable, scalable data analysis libraries, pipelines, and services for telemetry and test data - Build and improve user-facing analysis applications and the HPC application (submit, debug, share work without ticket queues or SSH sessions) - Partner with HPC systems engineers and HPC SREs so jobs, storage, and observability match how analysts work - Prototype quickly (notebooks, reports, agents, computer vision, APIs), then productionize what proves out (including video/inspection review where it saves engineering hours) - Own software from design through test, deploy, and operation—keeping report queues and analysis jobs within SLAs - Deep-dive with domain experts across avionics, GNC, propulsion, structures, and launch operations to turn review questions into durable systems **Basic Qualifications** - Bachelor’s degree in CS, data science, engineering, math, physics, or a scientific discipline **OR** 2+ years of professional experience building software in lieu of a degree - 1+ years of experience in software engineering, data engineering, or data science **Preferred Skills & Experience** - Python (C# or similar is a plus) - Data analysis libraries (pandas, NumPy, SciPy) - Machine learning libraries (PyTorch, TensorFlow, or similar) - Data exploration tools (Grafana, Jupyter, Metabase, or similar) - Relational databases (PostgreSQL) and large time-series or object/file datasets - APIs and internal web applications - Computer vision for production video/image review (OpenCV, Ultralytics, or similar) - Familiarity with HPC/batch compute (schedulers, containers, shared filesystems) — not required - Version control, testing, CI, deploy, and monitoring - Some front-end experience (React, Angular, or similar) - Ability to communicate clearly with users and domain experts **Additional Requirements** - Based in Hawthorne, CA; primarily on-site - Willing to work extended hours and weekends when needed - Willing to travel when needed **Compensation & Benefits** - **Level 1:** $125,000.00 – $160,000.00 - **Level 2:** $145,000.00 – $195,000.00 Base salary is determined case-by-case and may vary based on knowledge, skills, education, and experience.
