## Zscaler — Architect, Software Development (Layer 7 Security & Proxy) **Role Type:** Hybrid (minimum 3 days/week in Santa Clara, CA) **Team:** Zero Trust Exchange (reporting to the Director, Software Development Engineering) --- ### About the Role Zscaler’s Zero Trust Exchange™️ platform protects thousands of customers by securely connecting users, devices, and applications across public and private exchanges worldwide. In this role, you’ll provide technical leadership for the **ZIA proxy architecture**, with a strong focus on **advanced Layer 7 protocols** and **SSL inspection**. You’ll help improve production code quality by driving sound architectural decisions, implementing innovative solutions, and raising the engineering bar. You’ll also modernize the ZIA codebase by addressing technical debt, fixing existing issues, and rewriting components where needed—supporting and accelerating key proxy roadmap features on a scalable foundation. --- ### What You’ll Do - Support end-to-end **QUIC/HTTP/3** and **HTTP/2** proxy and **TLS/SSL** architecture in ZIA - Define and evolve the **ZIA proxy architecture** - Partner with Product Management and engineering on solution design, trade-offs, and end-to-end delivery of core ZIA functionality - Establish reference architectures and design patterns for ZIA components and integrations - Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and architectural governance across virtual and product teams --- ### Who You Are (Success Profile) - Thrive in ambiguity—build the path as you go and turn dynamic environments into meaningful outcomes - Customer-obsessed—build empathy for internal and external users and anchor decisions in real-world problem solving - Driven by innovation—bring deep curiosity to complex technical challenges and continuously seek better, more secure, scalable solutions - Think at scale—connect daily work to the broader mission for a high-growth, global organization - Lead with integrity—hold yourself and others to high accountability standards and build trust through consistent, transparent action --- ### Minimum Qualifications - Foundational understanding of **AI/ML** technologies and experience leveraging, securing, or positioning AI-driven solutions to optimize outcomes - **15+ years** total experience with proven experience designing and implementing networking security software and public cloud infrastructure - Deep understanding of **Proxies, HTTP/2, QUIC, TCP/IP, TLS/DTLS, and SSL proxies** - Proficient in **C** - Demonstrated success designing, optimizing, and troubleshooting **high-throughput, low-latency** network security products - Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field --- ### Preferred Qualifications - Proven ability to leverage AI technologies and workflows to drive measurable operational efficiency - Mastery of **TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP(s), VPN technologies (IPSec, SSL VPN), NAT, and load balancing** - Knowledge of **BSD/Linux**, virtualization technologies, and **DPDK** (or similar kernel bypass techniques) --- ### Compensation (US) **Base Pay Range:** **$217,000 — $310,000 USD** --- ### Benefits & Equal Opportunity Zscaler offers comprehensive benefits, including health plans, time off, parental leave options, retirement options, education reimbursement, and in-office perks.
