## About the Role Secure Every Identity, from AI to Human. Okta builds trusted, neutral infrastructure that enables organizations to safely embrace the AI era. You’ll join Okta’s **Core Engineering** team, responsible for shared infrastructure and services that other teams build on—such as **search, cache, configuration management, async job frameworks, and email pipeline**. This is a **cloud-native** environment where **redundancy, multi-tenancy, scale, resource optimization, and resiliency** are first-class. ## What You’ll Do - Work with engineering teams to design, develop, and deliver **cloud-based infrastructure** projects on a modern tech stack (**Redis, Docker, Terraform on AWS**) - Drive evaluation, development, and rollout of **new common features and frameworks** - Operate, support, and upgrade **shared services and frameworks**, scaling them as usage grows - Conduct **design and code reviews**; ensure high standards with **unit and functional tests** - Monitor, troubleshoot, and fix services/frameworks the team owns - Evaluate system performance and resolve bottlenecks - Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior developers - Collaborate with **architects, QA, product owners, security, and operations** ## What You Have - Strong motivation to do the right thing and help Okta stay ahead of anticipated growth - Solid experience architecting, implementing, tuning, and debugging large enterprise cloud deployments - Bachelor’s degree in computer science (or equivalent); **master’s preferred** - **5+ years** of programming experience in an object-oriented language (e.g., **Java**), especially backend services - Strong understanding of **multithreading, garbage collection, and memory management** ## Additional Requirements - Ability to access **federal environments and/or protected federal data**; must submit documentation establishing **U.S. Person status** upon hire (e.g., U.S. Citizen, National, Lawful Permanent Resident, Refugee, Asylee) - **In-person onboarding** and travel to **San Francisco, CA HQ** or **Chicago office** during the first week of employment ## Work Style / Tags - **#LI-Hybrid** - **#LI-M1** ## Compensation (Base Salary) Annual base salary range for candidates located in the **San Francisco Bay Area**: **$165,000 — $226,600 USD** Okta also offers equity (where applicable), bonus, and benefits including health, dental, vision, 401(k), flexible spending account, and paid leave (PTO and parental leave). ## The Okta Experience - Support for well-being - Opportunities to drive social impact - Talent development and community Okta is an **Equal Opportunity Employer**.
