With record growth and solutions live across a meaningful portion of the U.S. grocery market, our platform orchestrates billions of decisions—from the store floor to distribution—while preventing large-scale food waste. --- ## About the Role Join the Scanner Team as a **Staff Software Engineer** (backend-focused). You’ll **own development of our next-generation, flagship AI grocery ordering product**, **define the architectural roadmap** for upcoming systems, and tackle challenging engineering problems that directly enable business expansion. --- ## What You’ll Do - Lead the design, buildout, and deployment of **highly scalable, robust APIs and backend systems**. - Make critical architectural decisions that shape the platform and product. - Collaborate closely with engineers plus dedicated **Designer** and **Product Manager** teammates. - Partner with **Product**, **Account Management**, and peer engineering teams to deliver integrated client solutions. - Build a product used daily in **thousands of grocery stores** nationwide. - Work with best-in-class AI development tools and modern engineering practices. --- ## What Makes You a Great Fit - **BS in Computer Science** (or equivalent experience) - **8+ years** of software development experience - Thrives in a fast-paced, **AI-native** engineering organization that continuously evolves how it builds software - Proven ability to lead projects end-to-end (conception → launch) with high autonomy - Strong communication skills and ability to align technical and non-technical stakeholders - Ready to **step into a mentorship role** and guide junior engineers - Curious about complex systems, including understanding Afresh’s intricate business domain and dependencies beyond your immediate team --- ## Compensation & Benefits (US) - **Salary Range:** $168k – $253k + meaningful early-stage equity + benefits - Comprehensive health & wellness coverage (medical/dental/vision) + mental health support - 401(k) with generous company match - Flexible/modern workspace support (home office stipend, coworking access) - Annual professional development budget - Monthly stipends (Betterment + telecommunications) - Flexible paid time off *Full-time U.S. employees are eligible for these benefits.* --- ## About Afresh Founded in 2017, Afresh uses AI to reduce food waste and help grocers minimize waste while maximizing sales.
