## Systems Engineer **Mission** LENS’s mission is to end traffic accidents. LENS prevents accidents and saves lives by detecting hazards before they happen. **Platform & Product (LENS Detect)** - Detect scans CCTV feeds on highways in real time to identify hazards (e.g., disabled vehicles, stalled big rigs, pedestrians on freeways) before they become accidents. - Public Safety agencies and Departments of Transportation receive alerts on the LENS Detect dashboard. - A dispatcher reviews and validates detections, then dispatches an officer to assist—preventing accidents or saving lives. **Role** You seek transformational change. You don’t accept the status quo that accidents are inevitable. You believe that when the root cause can be known in advance, accidents can and should be prevented. **Responsibilities** - Increase the scale and speed of preventing accidents by working closely with the Co-Founder and CTO to architect, build, operate, and scale LENS. - Help build and scale the LENS Platform, including: - Data Feed Framework - LENS-specific AI - Additional platform layers - Application layer (including **LENS Detect**, a real-time streaming application used by Public Safety agencies) - Deliver highly reliable, scalable, and secure software for mission-critical public safety operations. - Lead by example: build with the end in mind, guide the team, and enable others to maximize creative impact. - Collaborate with builders and “Preventers” who believe technology and AI should amplify human judgment—not replace it. **Mindset & Principles** - Systems reliability is a Preventer’s work (24/7 first responder service expectations). - Systems thinking across the entire platform (infrastructure, data pipelines, AI layers, real-time applications). - Operational excellence: diagnose incidents methodically, communicate precisely, restore stability quickly. - Remove single points of failure and create safety nets (redundancy, resilience, no mission-ending single misconfiguration/credential/exposure). - Begin with the end in mind: design for real-time responsiveness, agency trust, and uninterrupted availability. - Invest where it reduces risk and protects mission impact. **Skills & Experience** - Proficiency with **Python, C++, CUDA, JavaScript, Go, Kotlin, Swift, TypeScript** - Production experience with **Google Cloud Platform and/or AWS** - Comfortable across the stack (from low-level systems to cloud infrastructure) - Hands-on experience with **GitHub Actions** and workflow design - Strong command of **Docker** - Experience integrating with **Neo Cloud APIs** - Root-cause analysis across complex, multi-layered failures (sensors → compute → physical hardware) - ML model optimization and metadata schema design - Working knowledge of transient real-time data (immutable event + time-series) - Experience with **streaming video pipelines** - Design systems with testability in mind - Messaging frameworks such as **MQTT, RTPS, ØMQ** **Equal Opportunity** LENS is an equal opportunity employer committed to building an inclusive workplace.
