**Staff Software Engineer — Access Programs** **About Anthropic** Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems—safe and beneficial for users and society. **About the role** As Claude’s capabilities grow, the Access Programs team ensures those capabilities reach the right people. You’ll build the identity, vetting, and access management infrastructure that underpins trusted access programs, along with monitoring and enforcement tooling to keep access safe and properly used. **Responsibilities** - Build identity verification and vetting systems (KYC/KYB) to establish who individual and business customers are - Design and implement access control systems to grant, scope, and revoke access to advanced capabilities based on approved use cases - Build infrastructure to configure safety systems and detection thresholds per customer for trusted access programs - Develop monitoring to detect misuse of expanded access, and tooling to enable enforcement teams to act - Partner closely with policy, enforcement, threat intelligence, product, research, and go-to-market teams to ensure access decisions are well-informed and consistently applied - Build systems to identify account compromise/takeover, apply real-time mitigations, and drive affected accounts through remediation - Design and build dashboards, alerting, and internal admin tooling for visibility into access program health and outcomes - Integrate with third-party identity verification and data enrichment vendors **You may be a good fit if you have** - A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or comparable experience - Experience building and operating backend systems in production - Strong coding skills in at least one general-purpose programming language; experience building software with AI coding tools - Strong communication skills and ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders - Care about the societal impacts of AI and want your work to make powerful systems safer **Strong candidates may also have** - 8+ years of industry software engineering experience - Experience building shared platforms/foundational services used by many teams and products - Cross-functional experience (engineering, product, policy, operations, go-to-market) to gather requirements and drive adoption - Experience with identity, authentication, or authorization systems at scale - Experience with KYC/KYB workflows or identity verification vendors - Experience in trust & safety, integrity, fraud, or abuse detection - Experience detecting and responding to account takeover or credential compromise - Experience partnering with operational teams to build custom internal tooling **Compensation** - **Annual Salary:** $320,000 — $485,000 USD **Logistics** - **Minimum education:** Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent combination of education/training/experience) - **Required field of study:** Relevant to the role (via coursework, training, or professional experience) - **Minimum years of experience:** Correlates with internal job level - **Location-based hybrid policy:** Expect to be in an office at least 25% of the time (some roles may require more) - **Visa sponsorship:** We sponsor visas, but not for every role/candidate; we make reasonable efforts and retain an immigration lawyer **How we’re different** Anthropic values big-science, high-impact work and a highly collaborative culture with frequent research discussions. **Saf
