**Staff Software Engineer — Teamfight Tactics, Mobile (C++ / Unreal)** Riot engineers bring deep expertise in specific technical areas while valuing opportunities to work across a broad range of domains. As a Staff Software Engineer on the Teamfight Tactics team, you’ll work with a multidisciplinary group of engineers, artists, designers, QA, and partners to build and support key areas of the game—**with a particular focus on iOS and Android**. ## What you’ll do - Design, implement, and maintain **C++ systems and features** for mobile platforms. - Diagnose and resolve complex issues spanning **game code, Unreal Engine, native mobile platforms, and platform integrations**. - Partner with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality features and player experiences on **iOS and Android**. - Provide technical leadership for mobile engineering, driving architectural decisions and solutions to ambiguous problems. - Influence engineering best practices (design reviews, coding standards, code reviews, tooling, testing, and build/deployment processes). - Improve **performance, stability, reliability, and maintainability** of the mobile game experience. - Develop sustainable solutions that improve codebase health. - Collaborate with technical and non-technical partners to evaluate tradeoffs and deliver effective solutions. - Mentor engineers and raise the broader team’s technical capabilities. - Participate in the team’s **on-call/support rotation**. ## Required qualifications - **6+ years** of professional software engineering experience in mobile, game development, or related fields. - Significant experience developing and debugging **native iOS and/or Android** applications or systems. - Strong **C++** proficiency, including use in mobile/game/performance-sensitive environments. - Experience diagnosing complex issues across **application, engine, platform, and native-code boundaries**. - Experience debugging/profiling/optimizing mobile apps or games (performance, memory, stability, and device-specific issues). - Experience with a game engine such as **Unreal Engine** or **Unity**. - Demonstrated ability to lead technical initiatives, make architectural decisions, and solve complex problems with broad/ambiguous requirements. - Experience collaborating across disciplines (Engineering, Design, Art, QA, Production). - Ability to work with teams distributed across multiple time zones. - Product sense, pragmatism, and player empathy. - Familiarity with iterative development methodologies (Agile/Scrum or equivalent). - **BS in Computer Science** (or proven understanding of CS fundamentals). ## Desired qualifications - Familiarity with **Teamfight Tactics**. - Deep expertise in native **iOS and/or Android** development (platform APIs, lifecycle, build systems, debugging tools, performance considerations). - Experience developing with **Unreal Engine**, including debugging/extending engine-level C++ systems. - Experience investigating issues at the boundary between **Unreal Engine and native mobile platforms**. - Experience with mobile build, packaging, deployment, and release pipelines. *Success in this role is driven by craft expertise, collaboration, and decision-making that prioritizes player delight.*
