**Staff/Principal Application Security Engineer** **About Binti** Binti builds software for state and county government agencies, focusing on reinventing social services. Starting in child welfare, we've helped approve 100,000+ families to foster or adopt and support 49% of the nation's child welfare system. We're a mission-driven, for-profit company (~90 people) based in San Francisco, backed by Founders Fund, First Round Capital, and Kapor Capital. **The Role** As our first Principal Security Engineer (Applications focused), reporting to our CTO, you'll ensure the security and integrity of our software applications while working alongside full-stack engineers. **Key Responsibilities** • Conduct security assessments, code audits, penetration testing, and threat modeling • Set strategic direction for security posture and prioritize initiatives • Respond to security incidents and provide post-event analyses • Design and implement security architecture improvements • Establish secure coding standards and best practices • Mentor development teams and foster security-aware culture • Represent security team to leadership and across the organization **Sample Projects** • Security patches and hotfixes in production • Pre-launch security reviews for new products • PII/PHI protection improvements • SIEM integration and logging/alerting systems • SOC 2 Type II and HIPAA compliance support • Bug bounty program implementation **What We're Looking For** • Proven Application Security Engineer experience • Strong full-stack development, cloud computing, and scalable architecture background • Proficiency in OOP languages (Ruby, Python, Java, etc.) • Deep web application security knowledge • Excellent communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences • Product-oriented mindset balancing security with shipping • Passion for social impact and improving outcomes for children • GovTech or FedRamp experience is a plus **Benefits** Above-market compensation (salary + equity) • 99% insurance premium coverage • Flexible vacation • 16 weeks paid parental leave • Separate sick/mental health time • 4-week sabbatical after 4 years • 401k, commuter benefits, FSA/DCFSA • $5k CASA volunteer bonus • $2.5k annual learning budget • Remote-friendly setup support **Note:** US work authorization required; no sponsorship available at this time.
