The platform provides savings tools, earned wages, and rewards without cost or hidden fees, while businesses gain access to permissioned data for research and insights. **About the Role** Own the engineering side of Attain's consumer mobile app portfolio and be the consumer voice with the ad-tech leadership team. This is a player-coach role: lead a small team of mobile and backend engineers, write and review code yourself, and set the technical direction for shipping new apps efficiently. Work closely with the Head of Product and represent the data apps business at the executive level. **Reports to:** SVP of Engineering **Office Locations (Hybrid)** • Redwood City, CA: Mondays in-office + 3 days Tues-Fri • Chicago, IL: 4 days in-office **You'll Excel in This Role If You:** • Built and scaled a consumer app with real ownership (founder, CTO, founding engineer, or technical lead) • Led senior scope before and want a small, focused team with a big mandate • Collaborate instinctively with Product counterparts • Backend-heavy full-stack engineer fluent in React Native who loves being in the weeds • Think like a product engineer—pressure-test ideas before coding • Credible in executive rooms; can represent business lines and hold ground on consumer needs • Read retention/engagement data fluently across product portfolios • Get energy from leverage: shared platforms, reusable components, AI-assisted development • Have experienced consumer scale and know which scaling problems to solve now **A Typical Week Includes:** • Lead architecture and hands-on development across the app portfolio • Partner daily with product lead on roadmap, feasibility, and sequencing • Track retention and usage across apps to prioritize engineering work • Drive "factory" economics through hardened shared components • Manage a small team of mobile and backend engineers • Represent data apps at executive forums • Raise the bar on modern engineering leverage with AI-assisted development **Preferred Qualifications:** • 10+ years software engineering experience with several years on consumer mobile products • Founder, CTO, VP Engineering, or founding engineer experience at a consumer startup • Track record scaling consumer apps from zero to meaningful scale • Deep backend expertise + production React Native or comparable cross-platform experience • Direct line management experience • Comfortable presenting to executive stakeholders • Rewards/loyalty or data product experience is a plus *We encourage applications even if your experience doesn't match every detail—we'll keep your resume on file for future opportunities.*
