**Software Engineer, Privacy Engineering (Block)** Block builds tools that help create an economy that’s open to everyone—across Square, Cash App, Afterpay, TIDAL, Bitkey, and Proto. **Role** The Privacy Engineering team builds tools and guidance so engineering teams can collect, store, and analyze data responsibly. Privacy Engineering provides technology and abstraction layers that help teams do their work while minimizing risk to individuals. You’ll build internal products and infrastructure to protect Block’s customers’ privacy and collaborate across product engineering, privacy counsel, security, and platform engineering. This role is **fully remote** and reports to the **Data Foundations Engineering Manager**. **You Will** - Design and develop services or infrastructure supporting data privacy initiatives and consumer privacy rights across Block’s engineering ecosystem - Help define the technological future of privacy at Block - Collaborate with other engineering teams to incorporate privacy engineering products into their solutions - Provide mentorship and reviews for engineering teams working with privacy technologies - Contribute to monitoring and stability of the team’s existing engineering solutions **Qualifications** - Minimum **5 years** of software engineering experience - Experience writing **scalable, robust, testable** code - Interest in learning new technologies or languages - Experience working across services, infrastructure, or frameworks to achieve security and privacy goals **Even Better** - Experience designing novel yet robust security or privacy architectures - Experience developing/maintaining services or processes for data governance needs - Experience designing ways to understand and surface data flow, access control, and risk - Experience explaining complex technical security or privacy concepts **We Use and Teach** - Java, Kotlin - Linux, Terraform, AWS, MySQL **Pay Transparency (U.S.)** Block uses market-based pay by location zone: - **Zone A:** $180,000 — $270,000 USD - **Zone B:** $171,000 — $256,600 USD - **Zone C:** $162,000 — $243,000 USD - **Zone D:** $153,000 — $229,600 USD **Application Notes** - Up to **9 active applications** within a **60-day** period - Reapplications to the same role are accepted **90 days** after a previous application has been reviewed **AI in Hiring Process** Block may use automated AI tools to evaluate applications for efficiency and consistency, with compliance to local regulations and privacy laws. **Contact** Questions about hiring practices or data usage: https://privacy.block.xyz/privacyportal/form **Benefits** Remote work, medical insurance, flexible time off, retirement savings plans, and modern family planning (and more): https://block.xyz/employee-benefits
