## About the Team Consumer Monetization builds the experiences and systems that power how customers purchase and pay for OpenAI products—covering purchasing flows, payments, subscriptions, and billing, plus shared capabilities that support new products, offers, and distribution channels. The team owns both customer-facing experiences and the underlying platforms, partnering closely with Product, Design, Growth, Data Science, and engineering to make purchasing effective and reliable. ## About the Role We’re looking for experienced **Staff+** engineers with **deep iOS or Android expertise** and demonstrated experience contributing beyond mobile to **frontend web and/or backend development**. You’ll shape and build purchasing and subscription experiences across **mobile apps, web, and supporting product APIs**. - **~50% native mobile development** initially - Remaining work across **web** and **product APIs** - **Depth in either iOS or Android is required** (experience in both is not required) - **Location:** San Francisco — **3 days/week in office** ## What You’ll Do - Architect and build purchasing and subscription experiences across **native mobile, mobile web, and supporting product APIs** - Partner with **Product, Design, and Growth** to identify customer needs, prioritize improvements, and set technical direction - Improve **conversion, performance, and reliability** using experimentation, product analytics, and customer insights - Develop **reusable purchasing components and capabilities** to help teams launch and monetize new products - Collaborate with engineering and cross-functional partners to deliver reliable purchasing experiences and support product launches - Lead initiatives from exploration and technical design through implementation, launch, and ongoing operation - Set engineering standards and provide technical leadership via hands-on development, design reviews, and mentorship ## You Might Thrive If You - Have demonstrated **technical ownership at Staff level or beyond**, shaping architecture and delivering substantial initiatives across teams - Have deep expertise in **iOS or Android** and a track record of shipping and operating production mobile applications - Have professional experience contributing to **frontend web and/or backend** and enjoy working across platforms - Combine strong engineering fundamentals with product intuition and attention to **performance, reliability, and customer experience details** - Use **data and experimentation** to identify opportunities and evaluate impact - Bring clarity to ambiguous problems, align partners, and make thoughtful tradeoffs between immediate needs and reusable capabilities - Enjoy hands-on engineering while helping others grow their judgment and take broader ownership *Bonus:* Experience in e-commerce, growth, checkout, subscriptions, or mobile monetization; experience with **app-store billing integrations** and **mobile release processes**. ## About OpenAI OpenAI is an AI research and deployment company dedicated to ensuring general-purpose AI benefits all of humanity.
