**Intern, Data Science (Biostatistics) — Remote (American Heart Association)** **Overview** Since 1924, the American Heart Association has helped cut cardiovascular disease deaths in half—and there’s still more to do. This internship supports the Data Science team and provides hands-on experience in **biostatistics, statistical programming, clinical research methods, and applied data analysis** within cardiovascular, clinical, and population health research. You’ll collaborate with **biostatisticians, data scientists, clinicians, and research partners** to support study design, analysis, interpretation, and scientific communication. --- **Internship Details** - **Time Commitment:** 20–25 hours/week - **Internship Duration:** 9/8/26 – 12/11/26 - **Location:** Remote (work must be performed **within the United States**) - **Pay:** **$23.00/hour** --- **What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)** - Assist with preparing, cleaning, validating, and documenting **clinical, registry, and research datasets** - Conduct **descriptive and inferential statistical analyses** under guidance - Support **study design**, including sample size/power considerations and statistical analysis plans - Develop and evaluate statistical models (e.g., **regression, survival analysis, longitudinal analysis, mixed-effects models**) - Build **reproducible analytical workflows** using **R, Python, SAS**, or other approved tools - Perform **quality-control** reviews of data, code, tables, figures, and outputs - Create clear tables, figures, visualizations, and summaries for technical and business audiences - Contribute to **literature reviews, manuscripts, abstracts, conference materials, and presentations** - Participate in team meetings, code reviews, documentation, and research best practices --- **Qualifications** - Currently pursuing an **MS or PhD** in **Biostatistics, Statistics, Epidemiology, Public Health, Data Science**, or a related quantitative field - Foundational knowledge of **statistical methods**, research design, and interpretation - **R** experience (statistical programming) - **Python or SAS** experience is a plus - Experience working with **healthcare/clinical/cardiovascular/registry/population health data** - Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and attention-to-detail skills - Commitment to **reproducible research**, data quality, and clear documentation - Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical colleagues - Coursework or applied experience in areas such as **regression, survival analysis, longitudinal data analysis, causal inference, clinical trials, or observational research** - **AI/ML/LLM familiarity is preferred** - Publication-ready tables/figures and/or scientific writing experience is preferred - Version control, code review, and reproducible workflow practices are preferred - Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment **Additional Requirements** - Reliable WiFi connection - Minimum availability of **20 hrs/week**, **M–F between 8:30am–5pm** - Must be legally authorized to work in the United States **without sponsorship** (now or in the future) --- **Internship Outcomes** - Gain practical job skills in a non-profit environment - Explore a career path with a reputable voluntary health/service organization - Build an internship experience that strengthens your academic and professional resume --- **Compensation & Benefits (Highlights)** - Competitive compensation and pr
