**Software Engineer, Labs — Anthropic (Labs)** ## About Anthropic Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems—safe and beneficial for users and society. ## About the role Anthropic Labs is an internal accelerator focused on building “breakout hits” that can drive substantial revenue or transform an industry. You’ll work at the intersection of cutting-edge research and real-world application—rapidly prototyping, testing, and iterating with researchers and users. You should be comfortable with ambiguity, willing to kill projects when the data says to, and energized by building in uncharted territory. ## Responsibilities - Rapidly prototype full-stack applications that showcase emerging AI capabilities; ship early and often - Collaborate with research teams to translate new model capabilities into intuitive user experiences - Work with internal test users and external partners to gather feedback and validate (or invalidate) concepts - Design and run structured experiments to test hypotheses (creative exploration + rigorous evaluation) - Produce documentation and insights to help prototypes evolve into full product teams - Advocate for UX and product considerations early in the research process - Provide feedback to research teams on model effectiveness and improvement opportunities - Flexibly contribute across Labs initiatives as priorities and opportunities evolve ## You may be a good fit if you - Have 8+ years building full-stack applications, with a track record of zero-to-one work in startup/startup-like environments - Thrive in ambiguity and are energized by uncertainty - Have a hacker mentality: high agency, bias toward shipping, and comfort with technical debt when it’s the right tradeoff - Are deeply user-centric: validate with real users before over-investing; talk about problems before solutions - Can articulate learnings from failed/killed projects without defensiveness (treat work as experiments) - Hold strong opinions loosely—advocate for ideas but change your mind based on evidence - Are a generalist who can shift between problem spaces as priorities change - Work independently with good judgment - Have strong technical skills across modern web stacks (e.g., React, Node.js, Python) and comfort with APIs, databases, and cloud technologies - Communicate effectively and translate complex AI capabilities into intuitive experiences - Care about societal impacts and ethics ## Strong candidates may also have - Experience building products with AI/ML or working with large language models - Direct collaboration with research teams in AI/ML environments - Background in user research (interviews, usability testing) - Experience across B2B and B2C, or multiple industries - UI/UX design sensibility for AI-powered applications - Experience with real-time apps (e.g., WebSockets) and complex frontend interactions ## What we’re not looking for at this stage - Deep specialists who can’t adapt if their domain becomes irrelevant - Engineers who only succeed in big-company structures with well-defined processes and long timelines - People who are precious about their work or frame all past projects as successes - Those who need clear roadmaps and get stressed by shifting priorities ## Candidates need not have - 100% of the skills listed above - Formal certifications/education credentials - Direct machine learning or AI research experience ## Logistics - **Deadline to apply:** None (rolling review) -
