**Verisign — Sr Software Engineer (Big Data)** Verisign helps enable the security, stability, and resiliency of the internet. We are a trusted provider of internet infrastructure services and deliver unmatched performance in DNS services. We’re looking for a **Senior Engineer** to join the **Architecture and Infrastructure Team**. In this role, you’ll implement systems to gather and analyze large datasets representing **network/application traffic flows**, **DNS**, **web content data**, and more—turning them into actionable operational and business intelligence. --- ### What you’ll do - Apply **Big Data** solutions to solve real customer problems using web content and traffic data - Design, write, test, and maintain **object-oriented** software for collecting, storing, analyzing, and reporting on big data sets (e.g., **Java**, **Python**, and open-source technologies) - Work on systems with enormous data processing requirements and help ensure **OLAs/SLAs** are met - Perform system verification across all phases of the testing process - Partner with application architects and developers to define test approaches, success criteria, and testing procedures - Deliver high-quality solutions using open-source tools with automated daily builds, tests, and deployments - Collaborate with cross-functional teams (system architects, project managers, product managers, operations) - Lead by example as a hands-on technical leader - Foster a culture of documentation and knowledge sharing - Take ownership of organizational practices and continuously improve processes - Lead incident response as needed for challenging issues involving virtual environments, networking, kernel configs, and distributed systems --- ### Required skills - **Bachelor’s + 12 years** OR **Master’s + 10 years** relevant experience - **8+ years** software development experience in a **Unix** environment - Expert-level programming experience with **Java**, **Python**, or an equivalent language - Experience with **Big Data** applications/jobs (e.g., **MapReduce**, **Spark**) - Experience with **Hadoop**, **Hive**, **Kafka**, **Spark**, and other Big Data technologies - Experience testing systems from existing system and functional specifications - Experience with **performance testing and tuning** of big data jobs - Experience with **data migration** methodologies - Experience with **RDBMS**, **time-series DBs**, and/or **NoSQL** databases - Experience working in **Linux** environments - Experience with automation frameworks/systems such as **Ansible**, **Terraform**, **Jenkins** - Experience with **private/public cloud** environments and cloud-native architectures - Experience in highly productive teams using **Agile** practices --- ### Location & compensation - Based in **Reston, VA** (offers a **hybrid** work schedule) - Pay range: **$164,300 – $222,300** - Discretionary bonus and certain roles may be eligible for discretionary stock awards --- Verisign is an **Equal Opportunity Employer**. **Additional info:** Staffing agency policy: No fees will be paid for unsolicited resumes submitted to Verisign or our employees by third parties.
