About this role
## Software Engineer — Openflow (Snowflake) At Snowflake, we’re powering the era of the agentic enterprise. We’re looking for AI-native thinkers who are energized by reinventing how work gets done—curious, low-ego, and experimental, with a focus on delivering reliable results in fast-moving environments. ### What you’ll do - **Design and implement** features in **Openflow’s control plane and data plane**, helping build **reliable, scalable, and secure** services for **real-time, bi-directional data movement**. - **Build distributed systems** for **batch and streaming** workloads, enabling **high-throughput, low-latency** data pipelines across **Snowflake and non-Snowflake environments** for both **structured** and **multi-modal unstructured data**. - **Own small projects end to end** (with guidance): requirements clarification, technical design, implementation, testing, rollout, and follow-up improvements. Also contribute to **medium-sized projects** with appropriate support. - **Operate and support** what you build, including **monitoring**, **on-call participation**, **incident response**, and contributing to **post-incident reviews** and **reliability improvements**. - Apply strong engineering practices: **clean code**, **robust testing**, **observability**, **security**, and **documentation**. - Collaborate with **engineering, product, and design** to clarify requirements, create technical plans, break work into milestones, and communicate progress and risks. - **Analyze and improve** performance, scalability, and reliability using **metrics, profiling, and experimentation**. - Contribute to **code reviews**, **design discussions**, and **team knowledge sharing**, including mentoring interns or onboarding newer engineers. - Help build and improve **shared platform tooling and patterns** to make it easier for Openflow teams to build, deploy, and operate high-quality **connectors and runtimes**. ### What we’re looking for - **2+ years** building and operating **backend or platform services**, including hands-on distributed systems experience. - Strong **computer science fundamentals** (algorithms, data structures, systems design) with practical production application. - Practical distributed systems knowledge: **concurrency, replication, partitioning, streaming, fault tolerance**—and how they affect correctness, performance, and operability. - Solid understanding of **operating systems and networking** basics (multithreading, memory management, storage, debugging performance/scale issues). - Proficiency in **Java** or a similar OO language (**Scala, Go, C++,** etc.) and experience in **large shared codebases**. - Experience building **cloud-native services** on **AWS, Azure, or GCP**, using **containers, CI/CD**, and modern **monitoring/logging**. - A track record of delivering **high-quality, maintainable** solutions—balancing speed with long-term reliability and simplicity. - Strong **collaboration and communication** skills across locations, including explaining technical trade-offs clearly. - **BS in Computer Science** (or related) or equivalent practical experience shipping distributed systems. **Bonus** - Experience with **data integration**, **observability**, or **streaming/flow** technologies such as **Apache NiFi, Kafka, Flink,** or **Airflow**, or with **analytics/data platforms**. ### Location / Compensation (US) For jobs located in the **United States**, please visit the job posting on the **Snowflake Careers Site**
