Our products include: - **NetBox Enterprise**: fully supported self-managed NetBox with advanced features - **NetBox Cloud**: secure, scalable, reliable SaaS edition of NetBox ### Role Overview We’re looking for a **hands-on, player-coach Engineering Manager** to lead one of our talented teams. This role reports to the **Director of Engineering** and will help drive execution while staying close to the code and architecture. ### What You’ll Do - **Lead a squad day-to-day** while staying hands-on: review code, join design discussions, and occasionally ship code to unblock the team or model best practices. - **Drive execution relentlessly**: break down ambiguous problems into clear plans, set sprint goals, remove blockers quickly, and hold the team accountable to deadlines. - **Own the software development lifecycle** for your team’s projects—from planning and design through implementation, testing, and release. - **Run effective Agile ceremonies** (sprint planning, stand-ups, retros) using GitHub and internal tools. - **Champion modern, secure software practices** and keep quality bars high without slowing the team down. - **Partner with product managers** to translate customer and community problems into shippable plans; push back with data when scope/timelines don’t add up. - **Coach and mentor engineers** with direct, timely feedback and help build a strong bench for future hiring. - **Foster ownership, continuous improvement, and knowledge sharing** within the team. - **Act as a liaison to the broader tech community**, supporting open-source contributors and community-facing initiatives where relevant. - **Report progress transparently** to engineering leadership and flag risks early. - Stay close enough to the code and architecture to make credible technical trade-offs—while trusting engineers to own implementation details. ### You’ll Work Closely With - **Director of Engineering**: coordinate cross-functional initiatives and ensure smooth delivery in our commercial products. - **Product team**: understand customer/community problems and deliver a stellar user experience. - **Peer engineering managers**: plan cross-functional projects, clarify ownership, surface dependencies, and remove blockers. ### Qualifications - **2+ years** experience as an Engineering Manager or Team Lead (ideally player-coach, with regular code writing/review). - Proven ability to **drive projects to completion** on tight timelines with a strong bias toward action and unblocking. - Strong technical background to **review designs and code** and earn credibility with senior engineers. - Experience with **Agile**, **DevOps**, and **CI/CD** in a fast-moving environment. - Proficiency with **GitHub** for code management, project tracking, and collaboration. - Solid understanding of **software security principles and practices**. - Experience with **open-source development and community engagement** is a plus. - Excellent communication skills in a **remote, async-first** environment. - Demonstrated ability to **coach engineers** while still rolling up your sleev
