## Overview At Snowflake, we’re powering the era of the agentic enterprise. We’re seeking an **AI-native** Senior Software Engineer to help take **FoundationDB (FDB)** to the next level—scaling it by at least an order of magnitude and enabling new workloads that demand **reliability, high availability, and strong consistency**. FoundationDB is an open-source, highly scalable database capable of **ACID transactions** at high frequencies and low latencies. It has been a core component in Snowflake’s shared-metadata architecture since 2014. ## What you’ll do - Identify strategically important problems, inefficiencies, and opportunities for impactful improvements - Own end-to-end delivery: solution identification, design, implementation, testing, and safe production rollout - Design and implement critical **high-performance** systems to handle increasing database request rates - Build next-generation components including the **transaction system**, caching, storage engine, and multi-tenant capabilities - Evangelize best practices in database usage and end-to-end architecture - Analyze and resolve performance and scalability bottlenecks - Instrument relevant components as needed and implement solutions ## What you bring - **6+ years** hands-on software engineering experience - Systems programming skills (multi-threading, concurrency, etc.); **C++, C, or Java** preferred - Experience designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed systems or web services - Experience with scalable key-value stores (e.g., FoundationDB, RocksDB/LevelDB, DynamoDB, Redis) is a plus - Strong CS fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, distributed systems) - Proven track record delivering complex distributed systems projects - Strong technical problem solving, communication, and collaboration skills - Excitement for hard technical problems and a willingness to question and improve systems - **BS in Computer Science**; **Masters or PhD preferred** ## Links - FoundationDB: https://www.foundationdb.org/ - Snowflake SIGMOD 2016 paper: https://www.snowflake.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Snowflake_SIGMOD.pdf - FDB SIGMOD 21 paper: https://www.foundationdb.org/blog/fdb-paper/ - FoundationDB Summit 2018: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLbzoR-pLrL6q7uYN-94-p_-Q3hyAmpI7o - FoundationDB Summit 2019: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLbzoR-pLrL6oWYrC950yAhbLk8FRRB_Bt - How FDB powers Snowflake Metadata Forward: https://www.snowflake.com/blog/how-foundationdb-powers-snowflake-metadata-forward/ ## About Snowflake Snowflake is growing fast and scaling its team to accelerate innovation.
