**Hardware Test Automation Engineer — Satellites (Starlink)** SpaceX is developing technologies to enable human life on Mars. Starlink is the world’s largest satellite constellation, providing fast, reliable broadband internet to millions of users worldwide. As a **Hardware Test Automation Engineer**, you will design, build, and automate test systems to support the development and qualification of satellite payloads, propulsion systems, mechanisms, and more. This role spans design, analysis, and manufacturing, with the ability to lead large-scope projects from early design through implementation. **Responsibilities** - Develop, document, and implement cross-functional automation solutions to improve test capability, coverage, and safety. - Design and implement test and ground support equipment (GSE), including flight hardware fixtures, automated test equipment, facilities infrastructure, vacuum systems, and more. - Design user interfaces that make complex machines easy to use and troubleshoot. - Create electrical, pneumatic, and fluid schematics. - Provide innovative solutions to unique requirements and challenges (e.g., specialized equipment and difficult installation locations). - Perform electrical installation of valves, limit switches, potentiometers, transducers, etc. **Basic Qualifications** - Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline. - 1+ years of experience automating test systems. - 1+ years of experience with instrumentation, data acquisition (DAQ) system design, or electronics test engineering. **Preferred Skills and Experience** - 1+ years of programming experience using Python, MATLAB, or C/C++. - Experience with electrical test equipment such as oscilloscopes, DMMs, DAQs, power supplies, electronic loads, spectrum analyzers, and source measurement units. - Experience with programmable logic controllers (PLC). - Experience with one or more of: electronics test rack design/build, DAQ setup and field measurements, or building electronic/test systems for local assembly or industrial applications. - Extensive knowledge of digital/analog interfaces including USB, VISA, TCP/IP, CAN bus, SPI, I2C, Modbus, and analog-to-digital conversion. - Experience troubleshooting interactions between software and hardware. - Experience designing, building, and activating fluids, thermal, vacuum, structural, or electromechanical systems. - Understanding of metrology, sources of measurement error, and uncertainty analysis. - Ability to collaborate across a wide range of people and work effectively in a team. - Strong verbal and written communication skills. **Additional Requirements** - Willing to work weekends and extended hours as needed. **ITAR Requirements** To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicants must be a U.S. citizen/national, U.S. lawful permanent resident (green card holder), refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158, or eligible to obtain required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
