**About aiEDU** The AI Education Project (aiEDU) is a growing 501(c)(3) non-profit creating equitable educational experiences that excite and empower learners everywhere with AI literacy. We educate students—especially those disproportionately impacted by AI and automation—with the conceptual knowledge and skills they need to thrive as future workers, creators, consumers, and citizens. **About the Role** We’re looking for an experienced engineer to build the technical foundation for aiEDU’s external-facing products. Our work is generally live and cohort-based, and we’re also prototyping web-based products to support the tens of thousands of educators and partners in our programs each year—moving quickly with current AI-assisted development tools and processes without compromising quality or security. Working with product managers, our Senior Lead of Data and Impact, and our VP of Operations, you’ll define quality standards, develop shared technical infrastructure, own security and data integrity, and act as first responder when problems arise. You’ll also mentor the team by advising on engineering/security best practices and setting practical guardrails for responsible experimentation. **⭐ Role Details** - **Location:** Part-time, non-exempt. Remote from anywhere in the U.S. on a flexible schedule (high-speed internet required). - **Compensation:** **$150/hour**, up to **25 hours/week**. - **Benefits:** Part-time role; **not eligible for benefits**. - **Start date:** As soon as possible after offer (some flexibility). **✅ Your Responsibilities** *Percentages may fluctuate during the year and over time.* **Product quality & process** - Partner with PMs to ensure external-facing products meet standards for **reliability, accessibility, error handling, performance, and security**. - Define the bar for what new features/products must meet before going live; review changes to production systems and external products before release. - Build shared resources (e.g., templates, authentication patterns, environment setup) that others can reuse; set up infrastructure for launches including **monitoring, alerts, and backups**. - Advise on what shouldn’t ship or should be retired; track what’s launched and shut down what’s no longer used. **Security & data management** - Audit external-facing products for security vulnerabilities; scope and implement remediations. - Harden backend configurations across **Supabase** and **Vercel** environments; own **credential and secrets hygiene**. - Establish and maintain the **GitHub organization’s** security posture. - Serve as first responder for security incidents (triage, remediation, documentation). - With the Sr. Lead (Data & Impact), know and document where data lives; design and enforce controls across data systems (including **audit logging** and appropriate **backup, retention, and deletion** practices). - Support the VP of Operations to evolve compliance and data safeguards and ensure documentation meets partner requirements. **Technical mentorship** - Create lightweight, realistic guardrails for AI-assisted development so non-technical team members can build and experiment responsibly. - Write and maintain plain-language documentation and runbooks that non-engineers can follow. - Grow the team’s technical judgment and literacy so the organization becomes less dependent on any single person. **🚀 About You** There’s no such thing as a “perfect” candidate—if you’re on the fence, we strongly enco
