**About SingleStore** SingleStore is a distributed SQL database that brings transactions and analytics together in one high-performance platform. Our technology helps organizations work with data in real time across cloud and self-managed environments. **About the Engine Team** The Database Engine team builds the core technology behind SingleStore, including query execution, optimization, storage, data ingestion, reliability, and performance. This is an opportunity to work on systems software that powers a production database used at significant scale. **About the Role** As a University Graduate Software Engineer, you will work with experienced engineers to design, implement, test, and improve production-quality database software. You will own well-scoped projects, contribute to technical discussions, and develop a strong foundation in systems and database engineering. Your work may include: - Developing features for the SingleStore database engine - Improving query execution, optimization, and runtime performance - Working on storage engines, indexing, transactions, or data management - Building reliable distributed-system components - Investigating and resolving performance, scalability, and correctness issues - Writing production code, tests, documentation, and technical designs - Collaborating with engineers, product managers, and cross-functional partners Projects are delivered through regular release cycles, giving you the opportunity to see your work move from design to production. **Required Qualifications** - Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (completed or expected by the start date) - Strong foundation in data structures, algorithms, and software design - Programming experience in C++ or C - Understanding of operating systems, concurrency, multithreading, and computer architecture - Familiarity with Linux or Unix-based systems - Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and solve complex technical problems - Strong written and verbal communication skills **Preferred Qualifications** - Coursework or project experience in databases, distributed systems, storage systems, compilers, or networking - Experience with database internals, query processing, indexing, or transaction systems - Experience debugging or optimizing systems-level software - Familiarity with performance profiling, memory management, or low-level programming - Experience contributing to production software or substantial technical projects **What You’ll Gain** - Mentorship from experienced database and systems engineers - Hands-on experience building software that ships to production - Exposure to database internals, distributed systems, and large-scale performance engineering - Opportunities to collaborate across engineering and product teams - A supportive environment focused on technical growth and meaningful ownership SingleStore values individuals with diverse skills, experiences, and perspectives and is committed to building inclusive, collaborative teams.
