We aim to make mental health care evidence-based, compassionate, and stigma-free. **Location:** Remote-first; hiring in most U.S. states (currently **not** hiring in Hawaii). --- ### About the Role We’re seeking an **Engineering Manager for AI/ML** to lead Rula’s AI Engineering team through technical leadership across: - **Applied product capabilities** (e.g., user-facing features like transcript summarization and search relevance) - **Foundational ML platforms** (e.g., feature store and AI observability platform) You’ll guide a highly AI-native group of **Senior and Staff engineers**, balancing: - fast execution - **Radical Candor** coaching - a rigorous **clinical safety** mindset to ensure models and solutions scale safely You’ll help shape a culture of high talent density and drive technical synergy that directly improves how mental healthcare is delivered. --- ### Required Qualifications - **8+ years** professional software engineering and machine learning experience - **5+ years** designing, scaling, and deploying **distributed backend systems** in cloud environments (AWS, GCP, etc.) - **3+ years** direct engineering management experience - proven track record hiring, retaining, and directly managing high-performing **Senior/Staff** engineers - **3+ years** technically leading or building **core ML infrastructure** - e.g., feature stores, MLOps pipelines, model deployment systems, AI observability platforms - **2+ years** building production-grade **applied AI features** - especially **LLM integrations** (NLP, transcript summarization, RAG) or **search/ranking/relevance engines** - Proven operational experience managing **both** user-facing product delivery **and** backend platform work across multiple production release cycles --- ### Preferred Qualifications - **Regulated industry experience** (e.g., HealthTech/FinTech) - shipping advanced AI systems while balancing privacy, compliance (e.g., **HIPAA**), and safety without slowing engineering velocity - **Advanced AI evaluation expertise** - designing production-ready evaluation frameworks for LLMs - automated metrics, LLM-as-a-judge, and **Human-in-the-Loop (HITL)** processes to reduce hallucinations and bias - **AI-augmented engineering philosophy** - deploying cutting-edge AI dev tools (e.g., coding agents, advanced IDE integrations, automated testing bots) - **Framework for dual-mandate prioritization** - clear approach for balancing short-term product delivery vs. long-term platform investments - prioritizing technical debt and infrastructure scaling against aggressive feature sprints --- ### Benefits (Full-Time) - **100% remote** work environment (U.S.-based; not hiring in Hawaii) - **Attractive pay & benefits** with full transparency of pay ranges - **Comprehensive health benefits:** medical, dental, vision, life, disability, and FSA/HSA - **401(k)** plan access - **Generous time off:** including **2 company-wide shutdown weeks** each year (for most employees) - **Paid parental leave** for all parents (birthing, non-birthing, adopting, fostering) - **Employee Assistance Program (EAP)** - **Quarterly department stipend** for team-building/in-person gatherings - **Community & employee resource groups** - **Home office stipend** + **$50/month** for internet/cell phone expen
