**Staff Software Engineer, Agentic AI** We are seeking a **Staff Engineer** to join our growing team and provide technical direction while implementing core parts of a new platform that makes it easier for customers to build **AI applications using MongoDB**. As a Staff Engineer on this new team, you will provide **technical leadership** to teams developing cutting-edge technologies focused on **deploying AI applications at scale**. You’ll take on **challenging, high-visibility projects** that improve **performance, scalability, and reliability** of the distributed systems infrastructure for this new product. MongoDB engineering teams build high-quality software and live MongoDB cultural values—valuing **intellectual curiosity**, **honesty**, and **collaboration over competition**. **Location / Work Model** - Candidates should be **based in the New York City area** - **Hybrid or in-office** working models --- ## Position Expectations - Work closely with **product management, product engineering, product design**, and other teams to define the first version and future evolution of the service - **Design, build, and deliver** well-tested core pieces of the platform in collaboration with other stakeholders - Contribute to **architecture, code reviews, and development practices**, and help shape **developer experience** as the teams and product grow - **Mentor fellow engineers** and assume **ownership and accountability** of projects --- ## Qualifications - Strong background building core components for **high-scale compute** and **data distributed systems** - **8+ years** building distributed systems and/or foundational cloud services at scale; interest in working with **Python, Go, and Java** - Proven success designing, writing, testing, debugging, and performance tuning; strong grasp of foundational computer science and maintaining distributed/highly concurrent software in large, long-lived codebases - Track record identifying problems, implementing solutions, and delivering complex projects in distributed systems or databases - Experience leading **15–20 person** projects involving distributed systems infrastructure from conception to delivery - Strong verbal and written technical communication skills and desire to collaborate - **Bonus:** experience with **containerization/orchestration** (e.g., Kubernetes) and **AI frameworks/tools** - Be a **force multiplier**—enable teams to deliver great products through leadership and technical contributions - Eager to learn with a strong technical background --- ## About MongoDB MongoDB is built for change—empowering customers and teams to innovate at the speed of the market.
