## Replit — Staff Software Engineer, Agentic Commerce & Payments Replit is the agentic software creation platform that enables anyone to build applications using natural language. As a **Staff Software Engineer on Replit’s Money team**, you’ll set technical direction and build the commerce platform that helps users **discover, evaluate, purchase, and manage** the products and services they need—**without leaving Replit**. You’ll expand on Replit’s existing payments foundation (e.g., Stripe integrations) to enable agent-assisted purchasing that is **useful, trustworthy, and reliable**—including designing the architecture and workflows that let agents understand intent, present clear options and costs, act within delegated authority, and verify outcomes. --- ## What you’ll do - **Lead end-to-end purchasing experiences** through Replit Agent: translate user intent into options, communicate prices/terms, obtain authorization, execute purchases, and confirm fulfillment/provisioning. - **Build extensible integrations** with merchants, software vendors, and service providers so the platform can grow without rebuilding every workflow. - **Extend existing Stripe and payments capabilities** to support new purchasing experiences (not treat payment acceptance as a greenfield problem). - **Design agent-facing APIs and tools** with clear contracts, secure credentials, scoped permissions, spending limits, and confirmation for consequential actions. - **Partner with Product and Security** for enterprise requirements like role-based access, approval workflows, purchasing policies, and auditable transaction histories—while keeping simpler purchases easy. - **Own the purchase lifecycle beyond checkout**, including provisioning/access, order/subscription state, receipts, renewals, cancellations, refunds, and reconciliation across providers. - **Make agent-driven transactions reliable** using idempotency, verified events, durable state, safe retries, and recovery from partial failures (avoid duplicate purchases or unintended spend). - **Drive ambiguous initiatives across teams**: define milestones, stay hands-on with implementation, and raise the engineering bar via mentoring, design reviews, and production ownership. --- ## Required skills & experience - **Staff-level technical leadership** on complex, customer-facing products/platforms—taking ambiguous initiatives from architecture through launch and production operation across multiple teams. - Strong **hands-on engineering and system design** skills (API design, data modeling, distributed workflows, and thoughtful evolution of existing systems). - Experience building **extensible third-party integrations** and handling asynchronous events, duplicates, partial failures, and changing provider capabilities. - **Strong product judgment**: turn complex multi-step workflows into simple user experiences while balancing speed with correctness and long-term flexibility. - Security-conscious approach to **authentication, authorization, credentials, sensitive data**, and actions performed on behalf of users/organizations. - Ability to align partners on technical direction, **document decisions clearly**, and drive execution without relying on reporting authority. - Experience **mentoring engineers** and improving architecture/implementation/operations beyond your own work. - Comfort using **AI-assisted development tools** while ensuring correctness, security, and maintainability. --- ## Preferred qualifica
