**Senior Shopify Developer (Contract)** We’re hiring a **contract-based Senior Shopify Developer** to contribute to our **Design and Development Team**. --- ## About the team We’re a worker-owned creative collective innovating across brands, IRL communities, IoT devices, and cross-platform apps. We share profit, open source our work, spin out new businesses, and invest in exciting ideas through financial and/or in-kind contributions. You’ll be joining a software team behind innovative products (including **The Light Phone & Mill**) and a global, decentralized community space collective. --- ## Who you are You balance **deep e-commerce expertise** with **modern frontend engineering**. You’ll build **pixel-perfect, hyper-performant storefronts**—from **custom Liquid themes** to **headless Hydrogen/Next.js** implementations—working closely with designers to deliver world-class shopping experiences. --- ## Responsibilities - Collaborate with **Technical Leads** and **Designers** to meet custom e-commerce and technical needs. - Build and maintain high-performance storefronts using: - **Custom Liquid (Online Store 2.0)** - **Headless architectures** (Shopify Storefront API, GraphQL, Hydrogen/Remix, Next.js) - Implement **responsive, accessible, pixel-perfect** interfaces with careful attention to product interactions and motion. - Integrate storefronts with **headless CMS** (Sanity, Contentful), payment gateways, subscriptions, search, and third-party e-commerce APIs. - Optimize e-commerce performance with a strong focus on **Core Web Vitals** (images/video delivery, bundle size, runtime efficiency). - Architect **scalable, reusable component libraries** and **design systems** for commercial platforms. - Write clear documentation for store management, custom app integrations, and codebase maintenance. - Participate in team rituals: **Sprint Planning**, daily standups, **code reviews**, and retrospectives. --- ## Must-have competencies - **8+ years** writing highly performant frontend code with an obsession for **95+ Lighthouse** and strong **Core Web Vitals**. - **Deep Shopify ecosystem mastery**: - Custom Shopify themes (Liquid, JSON templates, Online Store 2.0) - Headless storefronts via **Shopify Storefront API (GraphQL)** and frameworks like **Hydrogen/Remix** or **Next.js** - Modern frontend tech: - **TypeScript** + modern CSS (Tailwind CSS, CSS Modules) - Animation libraries (GSAP, Framer Motion) - Headless CMS & integrations: - Sanity/Contentful/Prismic + services like Klaviyo, Recharge, Algolia/Searchspring, Stripe - Platform & hosting: - Vercel, Netlify, **Shopify Oxygen** - Architecture & state management: - Zustand/Redux/Pinia and API integration patterns for cart state, multi-currency, checkout flows - Quality & accessibility: - WCAG-compliant, SEO best practices, testing (Jest, Playwright, Cypress), maintainable code - Performance optimization: - Caching strategies (Redis, CDN/Cloudflare), advanced image delivery, practical performance engineering --- ## Nice-to-have competencies - Custom Shopify app development (Node.js, Remix, GraphQL Admin API, Shopify CLI) - Shopify Plus/enterprise features (Functions, Checkout Branding API, Scripts, B2B) - Tracking & analytics (server-side tracking, GTM, Meta Pixel, Customer Privacy APIs) - WebGL/Canvas/3D (Three.js, interactive product visualizers) - Full-stack/API design (PostgreSQL, REST/GraphQL, OAuth/JWT) - Client-facing & management experience (require
