During interviews, you may be asked to demonstrate proficiency with AI tools, discuss how you leverage AI, or complete exercises without AI assistance. **Undisclosed AI use** not approved by your Recruiter may impact your candidacy. --- ## About the Team The **Vertical Experiences** team builds experiences that bring pets into the family—pet profiles, activity timelines, care coordination, lost pet alerts, and third-party integrations. We sit within Life360’s **Devices** org, focused on the consumer product layer and shipping frequently with end-to-end ownership. This is an **AI-native team**: AI is used as a first-class collaborator across spec writing, code generation, test authoring, incident triage, and system design. --- ## About the Job As a Backend Engineer on the Vertical Experiences (Devices Cloud) team, you’ll build and operate cloud services that translate real-world device signals into reliable, scalable backend systems. You’ll work on **high-throughput, low-latency** services for device state management, telemetry ingest, and device-driven features used by millions worldwide. --- ## What You’ll Do - Design, build, and maintain backend services for **device connectivity, telemetry ingest, health monitoring, and command/control** - Collaborate with **firmware, mobile, and product** to define APIs and device feature workflows - Deliver scalable, resilient systems in a **microservices environment on AWS** (EKS, Lambda, DynamoDB, SQS, etc.) - Build and own **data pipelines** for high-throughput streams using **Kafka or similar** streaming tech - Instrument services for **observability, reliability, and SLO compliance** - Participate in **on-call rotations** and live incident response - Write clean, testable, performant code; help improve **CI/CD and automation** - Orchestrate **AI coding agents** daily for spec writing, code generation, test authoring, incident triage, PR review, and system design --- ## What We’re Looking For - Bachelor’s in Computer Science (or equivalent experience) - **5+ years** building backend services in **Java, Go, Python, or similar** - Experience with **microservices**, **RESTful API design**, and **distributed systems** - Strong cloud skills (AWS preferred), container orchestration, and deployments - Experience with databases (relational and/or NoSQL), caching, and event/streaming systems - Ability to collaborate across teams and articulate technical tradeoffs - Hands-on **agentic AI workflow** experience **Nice-to-Have** - IoT or telematics experience - Kafka/Kinesis or other streaming platforms - High-frequency ingest and time-series data - Observability tooling (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry) - SRE practices and automated testing frameworks --- ## AI-Native Expectations (How We Work) - **Daily use:** AI coding assistants (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot) for real work—analysis, cod
