**Engineering Manager, Runtime Fabric** **About Baseten** Baseten powers mission-critical inference for leading AI companies like Cursor, Notion, OpenEvidence, Abridge, Clay, Gamma, and Writer. We recently raised our $1.5B Series F led by Altimeter Capital, Conviction Partners, and Spark Capital. **The Role** Lead the Runtime Fabric team in purpose-building container runtime and storage layers for AI inference workloads. You'll set technical direction, grow a world-class team of systems engineers, and shape both Baseten's infrastructure and the open-source container ecosystem. **Key Responsibilities** • Recruit, hire, and develop high-performing systems engineers with deep container and Linux expertise • Guide technical direction for containerd, runc, and OCI ecosystem projects for GPU-specific AI inference requirements • Oversee the Baseten Delivery Network architecture and expansion • Provide technical oversight on GPU-aware isolation mechanisms for multi-tenant inference • Champion team contributions back to open-source containerd ecosystem • Partner cross-functionally to prioritize investments and communicate progress to leadership **Required Experience** • Proven team management in systems, infrastructure, or runtime contexts • Deep familiarity with Linux container ecosystem (containerd, runc, OCI Runtime Spec, namespaces, cgroups) • Contributions to containerd, runc, gVisor, kata-containers, or related open-source projects • Strong systems programming in Go and/or C/C++ • Experience with distributed storage, content-addressable storage, or large-scale caching • Strong written and verbal communication skills **Nice to Have** • GPU device access in containers (NVIDIA Container Toolkit, CDI) • Lazy-loading snapshotters or peer-to-peer image distribution • Secure container runtimes or micro-VM technologies • containerd shim API (v2) experience • Multi-tenant infrastructure background **Benefits** Competitive compensation with equity, comprehensive health insurance, flexible PTO with company-wide Winter Break, paid parental leave, fertility stipend, 401(k), and exposure to diverse ML startups. **Equal Opportunity Employer** Baseten is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace.
