Algorithms Engineer
Base Power · Austin, TX
About this role
**Algorithms Engineer** **About Base** Base is America's next-generation power company rebuilding the foundation of modern civilization—electricity—by deploying a vast network of distributed batteries that transforms today's fragile, centralized grid into a resilient and abundant system. **About the Role** Algorithms engineering at Base is the heart of distributed fleet control and coordination. You'll solve sequential decision-making problems across various fleet configurations and become a first-class member of the trading desk, participating in real-time desk rotation. **What You'll Do** • Build and develop algorithms for distributed battery fleet dispatch for real-time energy arbitrage and ancillary services in wholesale energy markets (e.g., ERCOT) • Integrate wholesale energy market operations algorithms with grid-service control loops for voltage regulation and system peak shaving • Participate in fleet scheduling as an on-call scheduling engineer • Implement controls for first-of-its-kind concentrations of aggregated battery deployments at distribution system voltages **What You'll Bring** • Proven experience deploying algorithmic control for physical systems • Track record of profitability and scale in energy markets (a plus) • Deep understanding of control disciplines: model predictive control, reinforcement learning, Markov decision processes, signal processing • Data-driven mindset with strong communication skills • Comfort with modern tools (SQL, Grafana, etc.) **About the Team** The Markets team ensures grid-support performance and profitability of Base's distributed battery fleet. Our interdisciplinary team includes physicists, economists, computer scientists, and engineers. **Our Culture** First principles thinking • Base pace execution • Direct feedback • Ownership mentality • Strong opinions, loosely held • Mission-driven • In-person, all-in commitment *Note: As a startup, priorities shift quickly and roles may expand based on business needs.*
