**ABOUT BASIS** Basis builds real agents that do real work in the real economy—operating for hours at a time and performing end-to-end work for leading accounting firms. The company has raised **$100M** at a **>$1B valuation** and is focused on deploying advanced applied ML at production scale. **THE ROLE** Every team building agents has access to the same models. The differentiator is the **context**: the procedures, domain knowledge, and evaluations that determine whether the agent did the job well. At Basis, **context is treated like a product**—with procedures, skills, and system prompts that are owned, versioned, and held to a quality bar. **Intelligence Architects** build the coherent systems that construct our agents’ intelligence from disparate information. You own the mental model of what each agent knows, how it reasons, and how we measure whether it’s working. **WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING** - **Architect and author agents’ context**: decide what context agents need, how it’s structured, and what each layer says. - **Write procedures, skills, and system prompts** that agents consume. - **Set standards** for consistency across agents: define how procedures should be written, what makes a skill document “load-bearing,” and when context is ready to ship. - **Signal to action**: monitor agent performance; when outputs aren’t good enough, identify what’s missing in the context and solve it (in partnership with product/eval teams). - **Shape what comes next**: your perspective informs future builds as the underlying substrate improves. **WHAT YOU’LL BRING** - **Writing as a craft**: language that can’t be misread; excellent taste. - **Reasoning about systems**: understand how parts contribute to the whole; ask how the system allowed failure. - **Working from causes, not effects**: don’t accept “it works” without understanding why. - **Drawn to the frontier**: no textbook answers—curiosity is the motivation. - **Motivation by learning**: build accurate mental models of new fields quickly. - **Comfort in ambiguity**: your writing becomes binding and shapes thousands of agent decisions. - **Ability to hold many things at once**: user problem, agent behavior, procedure language, and success measures. **WHO MIGHT BE A FIT** This role doesn’t require a single standard background.
