**Embedded Software Engineer** **About Base** Base is America's next-generation power company rebuilding the foundation of modern civilization—electricity—by deploying a vast network of distributed batteries that transforms today's fragile, centralized grid into a resilient and abundant system. **About the Role** Lead the architecture and technical direction of firmware powering Base battery systems. You'll work on devices that monitor hardware, control power electronics, communicate with cloud services, and respond to real-time grid conditions. Partner closely with hardware, electrical, and software teams to shape system design and fleet-scale operations. **What You'll Do** • Define and evolve the embedded software platform architecture • Lead firmware development for sensors, power electronics, communications, and safety systems • Partner with hardware and electrical engineering on co-designed systems • Drive system-level decisions across embedded, cloud, and fleet software • Establish standards for reliability, diagnostics, and observability • Design OTA update and device lifecycle management systems • Solve foundational technical problems affecting safety, reliability, and scalability • Mentor engineers and raise embedded systems engineering standards **What You'll Bring** • 5+ years developing embedded software or firmware • Deep expertise in C, C++, or Rust • Strong experience designing embedded systems interacting with hardware • Experience with microcontrollers, embedded Linux, or real-time systems • Understanding of system architecture, reliability, and failure modes in production hardware • Experience building software for systems deployed at scale • Ability to work across hardware, cloud software, and infrastructure disciplines • Track record leading complex technical projects and shaping architecture • First principles thinking and bias toward solving hard problems **Preferred Skills** • Reading hardware schematics and datasheets • Embedded Linux ecosystem experience (kernel, drivers, device updates) • Knowledge of modern processor architectures (ARM, RISC-V) • Custom hardware development and debugging • Power electronics or energy systems knowledge • Safety and regulatory certification familiarity (UL1998, UL1741, UL1547) **Our Values** First Principles Thinking • Base Pace • Give & Get Feedback • Everyone's an Owner • Strong Opinions, Loosely Held • Committed to the Mission • Fun & Optimism with Grit *In-person role.
