Join us to help build the platform engineers rely on to ship AI products. --- **THE ROLE — Software Engineer, Observability** Baseten is seeking experienced Software Engineers to join our **Observability team** within the **Infrastructure organization**. As an early member of the Observability Team, you’ll help build and shape the observability experience for both internal and external customers—directly improving the reliability and operational excellence of Baseten’s product systems. As Baseten scales across multiple cloud providers and diverse hardware, the volume and complexity of operational data is growing rapidly. This team builds: - high-throughput ingest pipelines - cost-efficient storage - agentic diagnostic tools Our goal: detect, diagnose, and resolve issues in **minutes rather than hours**. --- **RESPONSIBILITIES** - Design and build scalable telemetry ingest and storage pipelines for **metrics, logs, and traces** across multi-cloud infrastructure - Own and evolve core observability platforms, driving migrations and architectural improvements to improve **reliability, reduce cost, and scale** - Build instrumentation libraries, SDKs, and integrations to help engineering teams emit **high-quality telemetry** - Drive alerting and **SLO infrastructure** with minimal noise - Partner with **Inference, Product, and Infrastructure** teams to meet each organization’s observability needs --- **REQUIREMENTS** - Deep experience in at least one observability signal area (**metrics, logging, tracing, or error analytics**) and familiarity with the others - Understanding of high-throughput data pipelines, columnar storage engines, and tradeoffs for ingesting/querying telemetry at scale - Experience operating or building on observability platforms such as **Prometheus, Grafana, ClickHouse, OpenTelemetry**, or similar systems - Strong proficiency in at least one of **Python, Rust, or Go** - Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset for improving operational visibility and incident response - Interest in applying **AI/LLMs** to operational workflows (e.g., automated root cause analysis, anomaly detection, intelligent alerting) - Excited to build foundational infrastructure and comfortable working independently on ambiguous, high-impact challenges --- **BENEFITS** - Competitive compensation, including meaningful equity - **(U.S. only)** 100% coverage of medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and dependents - Flexible PTO, including company-wide **Winter Break** (offices closed Christmas Eve–New Year’s Day) - Paid parental leave - Fertility and family-building stipend through Carrot - **(U.S. only)** Company-facilitated 401(k) - Exposure to a variety of ML startups for learning and networking --- **EQUAL OPPORTUNITY** Baseten is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace and provides equal employment opportunities to all applicants and employees.
