## SpaceX — Principal Cybersecurity Engineer (Starshield) SpaceX is building the technologies to enable human life on Mars. As part of that mission, we’re developing **Starshield**—the world’s largest US government satellite constellation—tasked with providing immediate access to critical intelligence and national security data for the US government anywhere on the globe. Starshield includes **space-based sensors**, **on-the-ground receivers**, **data processing**, and a **mesh network** that delivers fast connectivity worldwide. We’re seeking a **Principal Cybersecurity Engineer** to grow and lead a team of engineers responsible for developing and continually testing the cyber defenses of the Starshield network. This role is hands-on and requires breadth across both **software** and **security**. --- ## Responsibilities - **Lead a team** of cybersecurity engineers focused on being prepared for **immediate response** to active threats. - **Implement Starshield’s cyber defense strategy**: continuously assess the threat landscape, develop countermeasures, and run **red-team style exercises** to discover vulnerabilities and practice attack response tactics. - **Lead vulnerability discovery efforts**: run internal bug hunts, foster a culture of continual curiosity, and use the latest tools (including **AI**) to accelerate discovery and fixing. - **Improve incident discovery and response**: collaborate with teams building internal systems used to detect security events and enhance the ability to discover active intrusion attempts. - **Work cross-functionally** to deliver results, partnering with engineers implementing security features and teams developing internal incident discovery tools. --- ## Basic Qualifications - **Bachelor’s degree** in computer science, computer engineering, computer security, or a related field, plus **7+ years** of cybersecurity experience for active production systems; **or** **10+ years** of cybersecurity experience for active production systems. - Experience **leading a team of direct reports**. *(Additional qualifications were not included in the provided description.)*
