As a **Data Science Intern**, you’ll support data-driven decision-making across our operations, helping collect, analyze, and interpret complex process and operational datasets to improve production processes, optimize resource allocation, and enhance product performance. This position reports to the **Chief Information Officer**. **Location:** Houston, TX (global headquarters) --- ## Key Responsibilities - **Data Collection & Analysis** - Assist in gathering, cleaning, and preprocessing data from relational databases, process historians, sensors, and operational systems. - Conduct exploratory data analysis (EDA) to identify patterns, trends, and relationships. - Troubleshoot data retrieval issues (e.g., network connectivity, permissions, data access failures). - Support data ingestion from industrial protocols such as **MQTT** and **OPC-UA**. - **Modeling, Machine Learning & AI** - Assist in developing and implementing statistical and machine learning models (e.g., predictive maintenance, anomaly detection, process optimization). - Support AI tools and techniques, including **generative AI** and **LLMs**, to accelerate analysis, automate reporting, and surface insights. - Collaborate with engineering and production teams to deploy data-driven solutions. - **Reporting & Visualization** - Create dashboards and visualizations for non-technical stakeholders. - Prepare reports summarizing findings and recommendations. - **Collaboration & Continuous Learning** - Work with cross-functional teams to translate business needs into data science objectives. - Stay current on industry trends, tools, and best practices in data science, AI, and industrial data systems. - Other duties as assigned. --- ## Minimum Qualifications - Prior exposure to data science, data engineering, or a related field (coursework, projects, or experience). - Actively enrolled in a **bachelor’s degree** in data science, statistics, computer science, engineering, or a related field at an accredited university. - Basic networking knowledge (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/HTTPS) and general connectivity troubleshooting. - Basic familiarity with relational databases (e.g., **PostgreSQL** or **MySQL**) and simple SQL (SELECT, JOIN, WHERE). - Awareness of AI concepts and how they apply to data science/analytics workflows. --- ## Preferred Qualifications - Actively enrolled in a **master’s degree** in a related field. - Previous internship or relevant work experience. - Experience with industrial communication protocols (**MQTT**, **OPC-UA**). - Familiarity with time-series data analysis and process historian platforms (e.g., **OSIsoft PI**, **InfluxDB**). - Exposure to **SCADA** systems or industrial IoT environments. - Hands-on experience with **PostgreSQL**, **MySQL**, or other relational/time-series database platforms. --- ## Knowledge, Skills & Abilities - Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in data science (**Python** or **R**). - Familiarity with data visualization and data processing libraries (**Pandas**, **NumPy**). - Basic understanding of machine learning techniques and model evaluation. - Awareness of AI and generative AI tools for data science and operational analytics. - Basic knowledge of relational databases and ability to write/inter
