Our team of researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders work together to create safe and beneficial AI. **About the Role** Storage is essential across research, development, product, and operations at Anthropic. Our exabyte-scale, multi-cloud storage infrastructure supports training, CI, sandboxing, inference, warehousing, and data retention. We're seeking engineers with deep experience designing, securing, operating, and optimizing blob storage platforms at hyper-scale. You'll join a collaborative, high-trust team devoted to evolving Anthropic's storage capabilities while handling increasing volume and complexity. You'll own architectural decisions and drive world-class security, usability, reliability, and cost efficiency across varying infrastructures and regions. **Key Responsibilities** • Shape technical strategy and architecture for storage layers • Build relationships with users and partner teams; understand access patterns and requirements • Partner with CSPs, networking, and datacenter teams • Translate user needs into scalable system designs • Make principled tradeoffs across durability, availability, consistency, performance, security, and cost • Break large problems into deliverable milestones and lead cross-functional teams • Provide simple, consistent interfaces across backend stacks and abstraction layers • Plan and lead large migrations with minimal disruption • Participate in operations: SLOs, observability, capacity planning, incident response, on-call • Stay hands-on in code and production **Minimum Qualifications** • Experience designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed storage systems (object store, distributed file system, block storage) • Deep understanding of storage fundamentals: replication, erasure coding, consistency models, metadata management, durability, failure handling, high availability, access controls, security, multi-region considerations • Experience as owner, tech lead, or architect for large infrastructure systems • Strong software engineering fundamentals and hands-on coding in C++, Rust, Go, or Java • Experience operating critical infrastructure at scale: security, on-call, incident response, capacity planning, cost efficiency • Strong written and verbal communication skills; experience driving alignment across multiple orgs **Logistics** • Minimum: Bachelor's degree or equivalent • Hybrid policy: At least 25% time in office (some roles may require more) • Visa sponsorship available **We encourage applications from all candidates**, including those who don't meet every qualification.
