**Software Engineer I, Websites** **Toast** creates technology to help restaurants and local businesses succeed in a digital world—streamlining operations, increasing revenue, engaging customers, and keeping employees happy. ## Who We Are The **Websites team** advances and supports Toast’s **WYSIWYG (What-You-See-Is-What-You-Get) editor** for building and hosting websites for Toast customers. The team focuses on delivering **high-converting, customizable, easy-to-build and maintain** websites. The team also builds **agentic products** that work alongside the website builder to help customers **manage and grow** their websites with **data-backed recommendations**—making SEO and online marketing more approachable and automatic. ## A Day in the Life (Responsibilities) - Design, scope, and implement cutting-edge solutions using a mix of technologies - Enhance the platform to boost **performance, usability, and scalability** - Collaborate with **Design and Product** stakeholders to build the right solutions to the right problems - Identify high-impact opportunities and turn them into reality - Be an awesome teammate focused on collaboration and collective success - Work across teams so the product ecosystem works seamlessly together - Leverage cutting-edge **AI tools** to improve development workflow, velocity, and innovation ## What You’ll Need to Thrive (Requirements) - Experience developing **full stack web applications** - Backend experience with **Node.js** and **Java/Kotlin** - Web fundamentals: **HTML, CSS, JavaScript**; frontend frameworks like **React** or **Angular** (plus); CSS frameworks like **Tailwind** or **Bootstrap** (plus) - Experience with **Docker, Git, Bash/ZSH** - Thrive in a collaborative, team-based environment where you ship features together - Write **testable, clean code**; experience with **API design** and **unit/integration testing** - Passion for making users happy and seeing your work used in the real world - Embrace an **agile mindset**—ship quickly, iterate, and refine ## AI at Toast Toast values learning and building with AI tools to help teams deliver faster, more independently, and with higher quality. Learning new AI tools is part of the culture. ## Total Rewards & Pay Range - Base salary range: **$92,000 – $147,000 USD** (starting salary depends on skills, experience, and geographic location) - Total rewards include cash compensation (as applicable), equity, and benefits ## Hybrid Working Toast embraces a **hybrid work model**.
