Principal Software Engineer - Models
CoreWeave · San Francisco, CA, Bellevue, WA, Sunnyvale, CA, New York, Livingston, NJ
About this role
**CoreWeave — Principal Software Engineer (Models)** ## What you’ll do Own the frontend architecture of the W&B app (Models), including app performance, stability, and reliability. W&B is a single page that assembles data from many parts of the product. Individually, requests are reasonable—but together they can increase load times and degrade the user experience. You’ll define the boundaries for what must be fetched before render, what can be added afterward, and how those decisions scale as the product grows. This role is frontend-led, but architecture-deep and cross-organizational. You’ll shape other teams’ designs, build consensus across boundaries, and execute your own plans to land improvements. **Examples of what you’ll do:** - Set performance targets and drive work to meet them, validated with production data - Decide the app’s delivery and rendering architecture, including efficient code delivery - Partner with backend and platform teams on API design, including moving work out of the client - Propose and drive larger overhauls that incremental changes can’t reach ## Who you are ### Minimum qualifications - 8+ years building user-facing software with deep expertise in frontend architecture and performance - Led the transformation of a large, long-lived React application with a focus on performance, product impact, and developer experience—owning outcomes - Strong React + TypeScript skills; production experience with GraphQL and modern state management (e.g., Redux or Zustand), with clear opinions on when to use each - Real performance engineering ability: instrument, read frontend + backend traces, pinpoint where time goes, and prove improvements with numbers - Solid client-side caching fundamentals (normalization, invalidation, and failure modes at scale) - Hands-on experience with bundlers/build tooling; clear views on code splitting and delivery tradeoffs - Enough backend depth to design systems at a high level (propose API architecture for a faster client and reason about frontend implications) - Track record validating ideas, coordinating across engineering teams, and sequencing work across organizational boundaries - Operator mindset: measure, ship, follow through, and stay close to production ### Preferred qualifications - Experience introducing automated enforcement (lint rules, CI gates, performance budgets) that changed engineering behavior broadly - Background in data-dense or visualization-heavy applications where rendering cost and data volume are core constraints - Familiarity with observability tooling (e.g., Datadog RUM/APM or similar tracing + session replay) - Working knowledge of Go (or similar backend language) - Exposure to ML/MLOps/AI agent workflows, or genuine curiosity about the researchers and engineers using these tools - Experience with highly configurable products where user/deployment settings can’t be exhaustively tested ## Compensation & benefits - **Base salary range:** **$227,000 to $303,000** (starting salary depends on knowledge, skills, experience, and market location) - Total rewards may include discretionary bonus, equity awards, and benefits (eligibility-based) **US benefits for full-time employees may include:** - Medical, dental, and vision insurance (100% paid by CoreWeave) - Company-paid life insurance - Voluntary supplemental life insurance - Short and long-term disability insurance - Flexible Spending Account (FSA) - Health Savings Account (HSA) - Tuition reimbursement - Emp
