About this role
**Anduril Industries — Senior Software Engineer, Distributed Simulation (C++)** ## About the Team The Software Integration Environment (SIE) team builds the platform Anduril uses to test software the way it will actually be flown, driven, and fought—real binaries running on real services under conditions we control. SIE provisions isolated, reproducible environments for simulation and integration testing at scale across AWS, Azure, and on-prem. This role owns the simulation layer: how the simulated world is authored, how heterogeneous simulators agree on it, and how engineers inspect and trust what happened during a run. ## About the Role We’re looking for a **Senior Software Engineer** with deep **C++** and **real-time systems** experience to build the simulation layer of the SIE platform. You’ll design and implement systems software that lets independent simulators share one world—**a common clock**, **a common entity namespace**, and a clear model of **who owns what**—plus the tooling to author, reuse, and debug scenarios. You’ll set technical direction for a new, high-surface-area area, and work end-to-end: **design, implement, ship, operate, and iterate**. ## What You’ll Do - Design and build C++ services that federate independent simulators into a single simulated world (time management, entity registry/ownership, join/resign lifecycle, state distribution) - Own the wire layer: protocol encoding/decoding, multicast/unicast transport, and interoperability so simulators from different teams/vendors can communicate - Make simulation runs deterministic and reproducible enough that results are evidence (time control, replay, and instrumentation to explain divergence) - Build and generalize scenario + laydown authoring tooling - Build content/resource catalogs to save, tag, search, and reuse environment and scenario definitions - Improve performance: profile hot paths, manage allocation/copying, and meet latency/throughput budgets with hundreds to thousands of entities - Integrate with the rest of the platform (Go services, gRPC/protobuf APIs, and the team’s web UI) - Set technical direction, write design docs, and raise the bar via code review and mentorship - Partner with Anduril business lines to onboard simulators and integrate until it works in their hands - Reduce onboarding cost over time by turning manual integration into documentation, reference integrations, and SDKs - Work with internal teams and external customers to convert feedback into shipped capability ## Required Qualifications - **7+ years** of professional software engineering experience - Deep, current production experience in **modern C++ (C++17+)** - Experience building **networked, concurrent, or real-time** C++ systems (multithreading, synchronization, failure modes) - Strong systems fundamentals: memory layout/allocation, cache effects, sockets (UDP/TCP), serialization, Linux - Demonstrated ability to profile/optimize with numbers (latency/throughput) - Ability to own an ambiguous, cross-cutting project end-to-end and drive to production - Experience integrating with engineering teams who consume what you build - Comfortable working in at least one other language alongside C++ (platform includes **Go** and **TypeScript**) - Strong written and verbal communication (design docs for skeptical readers) - CS degree or equivalent experience - Eligible to obtain and maintain an active **U.S. Secret security clearance** ## Preferred Qualifications - Bias for ac
