About this role
## Responsibilities - Support and maintain the Medicare Fee For Service claims processing system. - Serve as a principal technical contributor on an Agile team providing maintenance and operations support for the Medicare Durable Medical Equipment (DME) contract. - Plan, direct, and coordinate COBOL software development across multiple functional areas of the DME system. - Lead technical design sessions and drive implementation of complex software components. - Design, develop, and enhance core software programs while adhering to strict coding standards. - Build and execute unit test plans, test cases, and test data; debug and resolve defects. - Install changes into internal testing regions and troubleshoot/resolution of issues. - Keep technical documentation current. - Provide leadership, mentorship, and act as a technical authority within the team. - Provide reliable time/resource estimates to support sprint predictability. - Consult with team members, cross-functional organizations, clients, and vendors to resolve complex technical issues. ## What You’ll Need (Qualifications) - **Education & Experience:** BS/BA with 8+ years relevant experience; or Master’s with 6 years; or HS diploma with 12 years. - Mainframe development experience in a production or maintenance environment. - Advanced proficiency with mainframe technologies: **COBOL, JCL, CICS, TSO, VSAM**. - Knowledge of healthcare claims processing, especially **Medicare Fee For Service**. - Experience as a senior or principal software developer in a mainframe environment. - Ability to determine and decompose business and technical requirements. - Application lifecycle methodology experience, specifically **Agile/Scrum**. - Strong communication skills and technical writing ability (including client-facing communication). - Ability to develop application solutions and provide accurate estimates. - Experience with Medicare processing systems such as **Medicare Part A, Part B, DME, or Medicare Common Working File (CWF)**. - Experience supporting **CMS programs or contracts**. - Experience with **DevOps/DevSecOps** tools and frameworks across plan/define/build/test/release/deploy. - **SAFe** experience and/or certification. - Ability to achieve and maintain a **Public Trust** clearance. ## Preferred Qualifications - Experience with **Assembler** in a mainframe environment. - Familiarity with tools: **GitHub, Jira, Confluence, Eclipse (IDz/RDz)**. - Exposure to modern languages such as **Java** or **Python**. ## Peraton Overview Peraton is a next-generation national security company and enterprise IT provider delivering trusted solutions for government missions across land, sea, space, air, and cyberspace. ## Target Salary Range - **$112,000 – $179,000** (typical range; final offer depends on factors including experience, education, location, and contract/business considerations).
