About this role
**Senior Software Engineer, Geometry Systems** Roblox is building the tools and platform that empower our community to bring any experience to life—reimagining how people connect from anywhere in the world and on any device. The **Geometry Scalability** team builds the systems that power both **Avatars** and **Environments** across Roblox. You’ll help enable millions of developers to build large, high-fidelity worlds and multiplayer experiences that still run smoothly on phones and low-end devices. --- ## Job Description ### You Will - Design and ship **3D engine systems** for avatar and environment geometry, including **mesh processing**, **level of detail (LOD)**, **transcoding**, **streaming**, **runtime loading**, and related performance systems. - Partner closely with other teams (**Rendering**, **Avatar**, **Studio**) and external developers so your features are directly usable to create amazing experiences. - Profile and improve **game engine performance** across a wide range of devices, with particular attention to **mobile**. - Lead by example: drive projects end-to-end, mentor other engineers, and help set a high bar for technical quality and code health. ### You Have - **8+ years** of professional experience building and shipping high-performance systems (e.g., game engines, real-time simulation, robotics, AR/VR, or similar). - Strong **C++** experience—clean, efficient, maintainable code in large codebases. - Applied 3D systems experience building at least one production system involving real-time 3D rendering, mesh/geometry processing, LOD, animation/skinning, spatial data, 3D asset pipelines, or GPU/client performance. - A real-time performance mindset: diagnosing tradeoffs across **CPU/GPU time**, **memory**, **loading latency**, **visual quality**, and **frame-time stability** on constrained platforms. - Ownership in ambiguity: driving work end-to-end when problems aren’t fully specified, defining the approach, implementing, rolling out, and handling production consequences. - Strong collaboration and communication across teams, with the ability to explain complex technical topics clearly to different audiences. --- ## Pay & Location Notes - **Annual base pay range (HQ in San Mateo, CA): $243,290 – $295,250 USD** (actual base pay depends on factors like background, training, experience, location, business needs, and market demand). - Full-time employees are also eligible for **equity compensation** and **benefits**. - Onsite office roles: **Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday** (optional presence Monday/Friday unless otherwise noted). --- Roblox is an equal opportunity employer and provides reasonable accommodations during the recruiting process. For US-based roles only: the company may not be able to employ candidates for certain US visa categories and may not support future **H-1B sponsorship** at this time.
