We serve frontier AI labs with the mission of delivering the best data to power the best models. ### Why Apply - **Massive opportunity:** YC’s fastest unicorn, valued at **$3.2B** - **Founding impact:** Own and architect core infrastructure systems powering the platform - **Equity & growth:** Competitive salary and meaningful equity; shape the engineering org as you scale - **Strong team:** Founding team experience from Citadel Securities, Meta, Google, Silver Lake, Morgan Stanley, and more ### Research Fellow Program - **Location:** San Francisco office - **Duration:** **12–16 weeks**, full-time, paid research - **Mentorship:** Weekly mentorship and hands-on support (engineering, datasets, human annotation, compute) - **Project focus areas (examples):** - Data quality and data composition - Post-training (supervised fine-tuning, reinforcement learning) - Agent and foundation-model evaluation - Public benchmarks in areas like coding and specialized domains (medicine, finance, law, STEM) - **Outcome goal:** Develop work into a **joint publication or public benchmark** ### Responsibilities - Define and execute a full-time project with an AfterQuery research mentor (aligned with your interests and at least one core research area) - Formulate research questions, design rigorous experiments, and analyze results - Develop datasets, methods, evaluations, or benchmark assets needed for the project - Document methods and results clearly; work with research/engineering teams to ensure reproducibility - Co-author a paper and work toward publication ### Required Qualifications - Significant academic, clinical, legal, or industry research experience - **PhD / MD / JD / or equivalent advanced degree** in a relevant field - Clear technical communication and strong scientific writing skills - Strong record of research/publication and ability to take work from scoping to rigorous, reproducible results - Passion for advancing frontier AI and understanding of model evaluation - Availability to work **full time in San Francisco** for **12–16 weeks** ### Preferred Qualifications - Publications at leading conferences or peer-reviewed journals - Domain expertise in medicine, finance, law, STEM, or another specialized field ### Application Materials - CV / résumé - Two or three links to representative research, code, or technical work - A **1–2 page** response to the Research Proposal Prompt (references and optional appendix excluded) ### Company Benefits (for eligible employees) - Health Insurance: Medical, Vision, Dental - 401(k) with Employer Match - Daily Meals: Daily UberEats Stipend - Monthly Wellness Stipend - Commute Covered ### Equal Opportunity AfterQuery is an equal opportunity employer committed to a workplace free from discrimination and harassment.
