Business Systems Lead, Procure-to-Pay
OpenAI · San Francisco
About this role
## About the Team The Finance Platform & Technology team builds and scales the systems and data architecture that power OpenAI’s core financial operations—enabling business agility, compliance, and operational excellence across procure-to-pay, quote-to-cash, supply chain, financial planning, and asset management. ## About the Role As a **Business Systems Lead (Procure-to-Pay)**, you’ll be a hands-on engineer designing, building, and operating integrations and first-party applications that power OpenAI’s procurement workflows. You’ll translate business needs into **secure, scalable software, APIs, data flows, and automation** across **Oracle Fusion, Zip, and connected platforms**—from guided intake and approvals through supplier onboarding, purchasing, receiving, invoicing, and downstream financial data flows. This role is **based in San Francisco, CA** with a **hybrid model (3 days in office per week)** and **relocation assistance**. ## What You’ll Do - **Design, build, and operate integrations** across Oracle Fusion, Zip, and connected systems using APIs, events, messaging, and batch interfaces. - **Build first-party procurement applications**, backend services, and user-facing workflows for intake, approvals, transaction visibility, and exception resolution. - **Write maintainable code** and reusable integration components with version control, code review, automated tests, and repeatable deployment/rollback. - Define **data contracts, mappings, durable identifiers, lifecycle states, and authoritative data ownership** for accurate, traceable transactions. - Engineer reliable processing with **validation, idempotency, retries, monitoring, alerting, reconciliation, recovery, and readback** from the system of record. - Build and evaluate **AI-enabled workflows** using OpenAI technology with scoped tool access, explicit approval boundaries, audit trails, and safe handling of errors/uncertain outputs. - Make **targeted Oracle Fusion and Zip configuration changes** (intake fields, routing, approvals, supplier settings) in partnership with Procurement and functional specialists. - Own **testing and release readiness**: integration/regression tests, business UAT, migration validation, staged rollout, and operational documentation. - Own the **long-term procurement applications and integrations roadmap**, prioritizing reusable capabilities and making clear build-vs-configure decisions. - Own **production health and incident resolution**, protecting access and financial controls while reducing failed transactions and manual intervention. ## You Might Thrive If You Have - **6+ years** experience in enterprise integrations, software engineering, or business systems engineering with substantial hands-on production responsibility. - Ability to **write, review, test, and debug production code** (e.g., Python or TypeScript) and use **SQL** to investigate data quality and reconcile systems. - Hands-on experience integrating with **Oracle Fusion**, including understanding how Procurement and Payables transactions move through its APIs and interfaces. - Experience designing and shipping **APIs, services, or internal applications**, including explaining implementation choices and production failure modes. - Strong understanding of **REST APIs, JSON, authentication/authorization, data modeling**, and event/message-based integration patterns. - Experience with integration platforms such as **OIC, Workato, or comparable tools**, and knowing when to use
