We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. **About the Role** We are looking for software engineers to help build safety and oversight mechanisms for our AI systems. As a software engineer on the Safeguards team, you will work to monitor models, prevent misuse, and ensure user well-being. **Key Responsibilities** • Develop monitoring systems to detect unwanted behaviors and surface them in internal dashboards for manual review • Stand up and run deployments across multiple clouds with consistent deployment pipelines, smoke tests, observability, and alerting • Design and harden sandboxed runtimes for AI agents: isolation, network egress controls, least-privilege data access, audit logging • Manage cost and capacity for large volumes of long-running agent work and set service-level objectives • Partner with engineers, researchers, security, privacy, and legal teams to ship detection work quickly **Required Qualifications** • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or comparable experience • Proficiency in Python, Distributed Systems, and Infrastructure as Code • Experience across multiple cloud providers or provider-agnostic infrastructure • Experience building and operating large-scale distributed infrastructure • Experience with sandboxing/isolation technologies or systems languages like Rust • Strong communication skills **Preferred Qualifications** • 8+ years of software engineering experience • Experience with sensitive/regulated data systems • Production LLM-based agent experience • Integrity, spam, fraud, or abuse detection experience **Compensation & Logistics** 💰 $320,000 – $485,000 USD annually 📍 Hybrid (25% office time minimum) 🛂 Visa sponsorship available ⏰ Rolling applications **Learn More** Visit anthropic.com/careers for confirmed openings.
