The company is building a sustainable system focused on equity, affordability, and effectiveness. **Job Summary** Octave is seeking a **Head of Data Platform & AI** to lead the technical vision and execution across its data platform and emerging AI, machine learning, and Data Science capabilities. This leadership role owns and evolves Octave’s data and AI/ML technical foundation, sets the technical/strategic direction for AI/ML in close partnership with Product and cross-functional business leaders, and builds the team needed to deliver that vision as Octave grows. You’ll be a leadership role for a builder: setting strategy and leading the team while staying close to the technology—contributing to architecture, prototypes, technical evaluation, and difficult engineering problems. You’ll initially lead a Data Platform team and work closely with Product, Engineering, Analytics, and business leaders. **Management Responsibilities** - Develop, coordinate, and implement systems, policies, procedures, and productivity standards - Provide leadership and guidance to ensure team goals and objectives are achieved - Foster a positive, collaborative work environment - Oversee planning, execution, and completion of team projects and initiatives - Establish and monitor operational processes and workflows to improve efficiency and productivity - Streamline operations, enhance efficiency, and improve organizational performance - Implement best practices, monitor KPIs, and develop strategies for operational excellence - Ensure a safe, secure, and compliant work environment - Achieve staff results through clear communication of expectations, monitoring, and appraisal - Build and manage a high-performing team (hiring, training, development) - Set performance expectations, conduct evaluations, provide feedback, and address performance issues - Identify skill gaps and build development plans (training, mentoring, coaching), including succession planning **Duties & Responsibilities** - **Define Octave’s Data & AI Technical Vision** - Own the technical strategy and roadmap for the data platform and AI/ML capabilities - Define and own company-level KPIs across AI/ML and Data Platform; report progress to executives - Partner with Product and cross-functional leaders to identify AI/ML opportunities that create customer and business value - Serve as a senior technical leader and thought partner on data, AI, ML, and Data Science - Help evaluate opportunities, assess feasibility and tradeoffs, and shape Octave’s approach - Develop a point of view on when to use traditional ML, predictive modeling, generative AI, LLM-based systems, and other approaches - Establish principles for build vs. buy vs. partner decisions - Balance near-term delivery with foundational investments for long-term strategy - **Lead AI/ML and Data Science Technical Strategy** - Establish capabilities to develop, evaluate, deploy, monitor, and continuously improve production AI/ML systems - Translate AI/ML opportunities into well-defined technical initiatives - Ensure initiatives are grounded in clear customer/business outcom
