Coupang combines startup culture with the resources of a large global public company, enabling fast growth and rapid launch of new services. ## Job Overview As a **Sr. Staff Backend Engineer** on the **Inventory and Promise Platform** team, you will help **Coupang Fulfillment & Transportation** operate **faster, better, and cheaper** using modern, reliable, and data-driven technologies. You will provide technical leadership for rearchitecting and building a **brand-new Inventory and Promise platform** that: - Gives customers **inventory visibility** so they can order - Provides **promised delivery dates** - Powers **fulfillment orchestration** after an order is placed ## Key Responsibilities - Serve as a **technical lead** on demanding, cross-functional projects involving **Inventory and Promise** - Independently design **quality architecture** for new **microservices** and **machine learning pipelines** - Break down complex problems into **simple, straightforward solutions** - Apply expert knowledge in **performance**, **scalability**, **enterprise distributed architecture**, and **engineering best practices** - Mentor others and support career development across the team and community - Provide technical influence across multiple teams to improve productivity and effectiveness ## Qualifications - **Bachelor’s degree** in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Math, or a related field - **10+ years** of backend software development experience - Demonstrated experience building and maintaining **highly available distributed systems** ## Preferred - Experience with scalable distributed systems and understanding of **machine learning algorithms** - Strong understanding of backend scalable architecture, distributed systems, and **message-oriented architecture** - Experience with full-stack, high-scale production systems with **fault tolerance** and **monitoring** - Experience building **stream-processing** systems (e.g., **Kafka**, **Spark Streaming**) - Data caching/storage techniques and distributed architectures with **horizontal scale** - Operationalizing software in large-scale environments with **high availability** requirements - eCommerce domain experience related to **supply chain** (Inventory and Promise) - Software development experience with **Java, Scala, and Python** - **AWS** experience; **Java** is a plus ## Pay & Benefits - Base pay range: **$174,000/year to $299,000/year** (varies by market location and job-related factors) **Benefits (general):** Medical/Dental/Vision/Life, AD&D; FSA/HSA; disability; EAP; 401K match; PTO (18–21 days based on tenure); public holidays; paid parental leave; pre-tax commuter benefits; free electric car charging. **Other Compensation:** May include bonuses, equity, or other forms of compensation in addition to base pay. ## Recruitment Process Application Review → Phone Interview → Onsite (or Virtual Onsite) Interview → Offer ## Details to Consider - Posting may close early if openings are filled - Offer may be rescinded if false information is submitted - Employment protection candidates may receive preferential treatment per applicable laws ## Privacy Notice https://www.coupang.jobs/privacy-policy/ **Job Requisition ID:** R0078747
