**Staff ML Engineer – Search & Discovery Relevance (Coupang)** **About the role** Search & Discovery is Coupang’s most critical customer-facing experience—relevantly matching billions of products to customer intent. You’ll help build next-generation infrastructure across serving, pipelines, and machine learning to support hypergrowth, with a focus on improving search relevance and quality. You’ll work closely with Search senior leadership (VP, Sr. Directors), with autonomy to identify and solve key Search problems and explore innovations such as deep learning and large language modeling. **Key responsibilities** - Build end-to-end Search & Discovery systems and help design next-generation AI products to support business growth - Drive key developments and overcome technical blockers with strong execution - Ensure solid ML design and operational excellence - Be metrics-driven and identify major opportunities - Collaborate effectively with partner teams - Recruit and develop world-class talent **Basic qualifications** - 6+ years of industry experience in technology companies - Broad and deep understanding of: information retrieval, deep learning, large language modeling, data processing, and real-time serving - Proven track record delivering large, complex systems with significant business impact - Strong design and problem-solving skills - Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration **Preferred qualifications** - Experience working on search and recommendation systems - Search relevance and query understanding - Experience as a Technical Lead or Manager **Compensation & benefits (high level)** - Base pay range: **$174,000/year to $299,000/year** (varies by market location and experience) - Benefits include medical/dental/vision/life, FSA/HSA, disability, EAP, 401(k) match, PTO, public holidays, paid parental leave, commuter benefits, and electric car charging - “Other compensation” may include bonuses, equity, or other forms of compensation **Recruitment process (summary)** Application review → Phone interview → Onsite (or virtual onsite) interview → Offer (process may vary) **Job Requisition ID**: **R0079238**
